I'm rushing.
I have an idea of the place I'm going.
Where?
Who?
What?
But am I present on the way there?
The way is a big part of life,
If not all of it.
I remember this and come to my senses.
I notice the yellow flower growing through a crack in the sidewalk.
I smile and slow down.
As I take one conscious step,
I first feel the heel touch the ground,
Then rolling through the ball of the foot,
My weight on the ground,
The ground holding me.
After a few steps,
I speed up again.
I still need to get to my appointment on time,
But I realise that I don't need to stress in the negative sense.
I know I must be somewhere else very soon,
But I am already doing all I can,
Walking fast.
And while walking,
I can be present in the fast pace.
I sense my heart beating faster,
Blood pumping around the body,
Muscles working,
Breathing faster.
I have arrived.
See for yourself.
You can meditate while walking.
Take one slow,
Conscious step.
Sense how the foot touches the ground,
Then the other foot.
When you notice that you have been lost in thought,
Bring your attention to the moment of attention back to the walking.
A foot touching the ground here and now.
Now,
You can also try walking faster.
Sense how different parts of the body work,
The heart,
The breath,
The muscles,
When walking fast.
You can also try walking faster.
You can also try walking faster.
