Coming into a posture that feels both relaxed and alert.
And closing your eyes or looking downwards.
And resting your hands in an easy,
Effortless way.
Feeling the points of contact between your body and the chair and floor,
Whatever surface is supporting you.
Settling into those surfaces,
Almost like a sense of filling up with sand.
Becoming heavy settling in.
I'm inviting you to take three conscious breaths.
Deep inhale,
Breathing all the way down into your abdomen,
And a long exhale.
With the exhale,
Letting go of thoughts of past and future,
Whatever you were focused on before arriving here,
Whatever awaits you afterwards,
Letting it all go.
Inviting relaxation on the exhale.
Softening and releasing any obvious areas of physical tension.
And now,
Letting your breath become natural.
Bringing to mind a place in nature or even a window where you feel peaceful.
Where mental chatter quiets and something steadier,
Perhaps answers or inspiration,
Comes through.
What does this place look like?
Feel like.
Sound like?
Smell light.
Take some time to imagine this refuge as completely as you can.
Now bringing yourself into the picture.
Imagine that you are in this beautiful place.
Taking in the lovely,
Peaceful,
Relaxing surroundings.
Maybe even taking a walk.
Or having a seat.
Before,
You might have been looking at this peaceful scene like a painting from a distance.
Now you're in the scene,
Immersed in it.
Notice what you see around you.
What in this scene is most relaxing to you?
Explore this special place with your feet and or your eyes and see all that you can see.
What do you smell in the air?
Feeling yourself breathing the air of this place.
Reach out and touch something that's attractive and peaceful to you.
How does it feel?
You're living in this scene,
This special place.
You can feel the ground or surface beneath you.
The air on your skin.
How does it feel?
Take a moment to listen.
What sounds do you hear in this sanctuary?
Whatever you hear,
Taking a moment now to enjoy listening to it.
For the next minute or two,
Enjoying exploring this place with your senses.
If your mind drifts into thought,
When you notice it's drifted,
Simply bringing it back to noticing all the sensory details of your refuge.
And when you're ready,
Letting this special place begin to fade and soften around the edges.
Letting it dissolve.
Remember that this refuge is always here for you.
You can come back to it whenever you wish.
It's always with you.
And taking a deep breath.
Taking in the fruits of this practice,
This special place.
I'm letting go.
Coming back to the space that you are in.
Opening your eyes,
Taking in your surroundings.
Bringing some small movements into the body,
Wiggling fingers and toes.
Letting the body stretch or move in any way it wants to.
Thank you for practicing with me.
