Blessings and namaste.
I'm Rev Skip.
This meditation is a meditation to help us to remember and to be homage not just to the African American history,
But the history of the African diaspora.
So sit back,
Relax.
Together we remember the history.
Close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in.
Big exhale and allow yourself to go on a journey of remembering.
This is a time to reflect.
This is a time to acknowledge.
This is a time to remember.
As a people our history has not been told or we've had a skewed image of who Africans and African Americans are.
This is a time that we go into our research.
We read about our history.
We pass down this history to our children,
Not just black children,
All children.
We give thanks and gratitude to Carter G.
Woodson.
As a historian,
A scholar,
An educator.
He created what was known as Negro History Week.
We celebrate Black History Month to recognize significant achievements of African Americans.
And as we're moving forward in our contemporary movement of Black Lives Matter,
We must remember whose shoulders we stand on.
We remember our civil rights movement.
We remember Dr.
King.
We remember Malcolm X.
Rosa Parks.
We remember John Lewis,
Elijah Cummings.
We remember those who march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge,
Selma,
Alabama,
Where my family is from.
And we say thank you.
We say thank you for what you have done so that we may rise up not just as a black community,
But as a global community.
We remember our enslaved ancestors.
We thank you for your resiliency to not give up.
Through the horrific experience of enslavement,
You continue to move forward.
We thank you.
We hold you in our consciousness,
And we bless you.
And we remember those who endured the Middle Passage,
Which millions of Africans were forced to leave families to live a life of enslavement.
We remember the African families that lost their children,
Their fathers,
Their mothers.
We remember and we honor you today.
Today we remember the mighty kings and queens of Africa of a continent of people who are creative,
Strong,
Beautiful,
Charming,
Brilliant lights.
We celebrate our people.
And as we remember Black History Month,
We remember the history of where we come from.
We remember the struggle,
The rising up.
We remember the triumphs.
We remember to tell these stories to our children so this history will never be forgotten.
We give thanks.
We give thanks.
We give thanks.
And so it is.
Thank you.
