Find a comfortable seated or lying down position.
Allow your arms and your legs to become heavy and relaxed.
Allow your hands to rest with your palms facing up as a posture of receiving.
Now,
Take a slow breath in through your nose and release it gently through your mouth.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
One more deep inhaling breath and a slow releasing breath.
As you let go of any anxiety or worry from the morning,
Simply fall away.
You don't have to carry it right now.
You have arrived to your sacred pause.
This moment belongs to God and to you.
Let these ancient words settle over your mind and your heart.
Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 through 23.
Hear the word of the Lord.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.
His mercies never come to an end.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness.
Breathe these words in,
Dear friend.
His mercies are new every single morning.
Not last month's mercy or yesterday's grace.
New mercies for you.
Now I want you to think about a moment about what you carried into this morning.
Maybe it's the weight of something unresolved,
Like a conversation that didn't go well or worry that followed you to sleep.
Maybe you're thinking about a task that already feels too big before the day has even begun.
Or maybe it's grief.
Or maybe it's just exhaustion.
Beloved,
Whatever it is,
God already knows.
And here is the extraordinary truth of Lamentations.
This book was written in the middle of devastation.
The city of Jerusalem had fallen.
The people had lost nearly everything.
And yet,
In the rubble,
The writer found something steady.
He found the mercies of God,
Rising fresh every single morning.
Not because the circumstances had changed,
But because God had not.
So what if this morning right now,
Before the emails or before the meeting,
Before the demands of the day.
What if this were the moment you received that mercy?
Not when you feel worthy of it.
Not after you've proven something.
And if you received it right now,
This morning,
What would that feel like?
Take a moment to pause and reflect on what you need new mercy for today.
Now take a deep breath in and a slow releasing breath out as we pray.
Lord,
I come to you this morning,
Not with everything together.
But I come.
I come because your word says your mercies are new today.
And I need them.
I need the kind of grace that doesn't keep a record of yesterday.
And Lord,
I need the kind of love that doesn't require me to earn this morning.
Thank you for being that God for me.
Thank you for your faithfulness.
Thank you for caring for me.
Even when I stumble or when I wake up anxious or scattered,
You are there still offering new mercies.
And Lord,
I receive your mercy today.
I receive it for the worries that are on my heart.
Mercy for the places I feel insufficient.
For the fears I haven't fully surrendered.
Mercy for the parts of my life where I feel stuck.
Oh Lord,
Let your newness meet me there.
Let your steadfast love be the first thing that shapes this day.
Before the noise.
Before the demands.
Before I decide what kind of day this is going to be.
You have already spoken.
It indeed is a day of new mercy.
And I choose to receive it.
In Jesus's name,
Amen.
Now beloved,
Receive this closing blessing.
Before you go into your morning,
Take one more deep breath in and slowly out.
Remember God's mercies are not running out.
They are not diminishing.
They are not conditional or based on your performance.
They are new every morning,
Including this one.
So be gentle with yourself.
You are held by the God of mercy.
In Jesus's name,
Amen.
