This is a great somatic practice to help you release some of that energy that gets stuck in your body when you're experiencing states of stress.
If it's available for you to stand up,
Please do so.
And if not,
Stay seated.
And just start to shake your body as vigorously as is reasonable without injuring yourself.
Shake your arms,
Shake your legs,
Bounce at the knees,
Gently shake or nod your head,
Shake your shoulders,
Wiggle your hips,
And continue to do this for the next minute.
So keep shaking,
Keep moving,
You can even stomp your feet.
And as you do this,
Notice if your body is inviting you to take some deeper breaths in and louder,
Longer sighs out.
So sighing and shaking are both wonderful ways for us to release stuck energy that gets stored in the body and helps us to drop out of the thinking mind and back into the body so that we can be more present to whatever arises.
So keep shaking.
Shake as though you're trying to get rid of something on the tips of your fingers and the tips of your toes.
Allow any sighs,
Breaths,
And sounds to come out.
So keep shaking,
Just another 20 seconds.
Shake that body as much as you can,
Allow the sighs and sounds to come out.
And then finally,
Very slowly come to stillness,
So not abruptly,
Just slowly allow your body to slow down,
Slow down,
Slow down into stillness.
Stay standing or seated.
Just notice for a moment what's going on in your body.
How do you feel?
You might notice tingling sensations,
Maybe some extra space around your chests or lungs.
Maybe a difference in the nature of your thoughts,
Perhaps a greater sense of presence or calm.
Just notice without judgment.
