Transcript
Welcome to this practice that is designed to help you take action towards a goal or aspiration.
Begin by settling in to a seated position,
Cross-legged or in a chair.
As you get comfortable,
See if you can bring a sense of dignity and confidence to your posture.
Sitting tall,
A small lift to the corners of your mouth.
Breathe easily in and out.
Just naturally in and out.
Relaxed but poised.
In and out.
Begin to imagine you are in a garden of a stately home in England.
You may see images clearly in your mind or you might experience more of a felt sense of being there.
It's a spring day and the sun is shining overhead.
Feel its gentle warmth on your skin.
Above you fluffy white clouds drift slowly across the blue sky.
And around you there's a vast expanse of lawns.
Their freshly cut stripes alternate light and dark green,
Punctuated with perfectly manicured hedges and bushes that are cut in the shapes of spheres,
Squares and swirls.
You're walking down a wide white gravel path,
A soft crunch underfoot with each step.
Ahead of you is a fountain,
Surrounded by a low wall of old stone,
Water clear and clean shooting high up from a sculpture in the center.
You watch for a moment,
Noticing the aged appearance of sandstone colored and worn by years of sun,
Rain,
Wind and snow.
Continue to walk past the fountain,
Down the wide path,
Breathing easy,
Feeling relaxed,
Inspired by this beautiful mature garden.
You feel a sense that nothing here happened overnight,
That constant work is done to maintain and grow these gardens.
Ahead of you,
You see a splash of yellow daffodils lined up in front of an opening in one of the tall wall-like hedges.
This living archway opens up to another smaller walled garden.
In this space there are rows of plants and trees growing,
All at different stages of development.
There are benches all around this area and tools for tending the garden,
Trowels and shears,
Scissors and rakes and a line of colorful watering cans along one side.
You notice now if you hadn't already that you're holding a seed in your right hand.
Look at the seed,
Notice its size,
Weight,
Shape,
Its color and texture.
This seed represents your goal for your aspiration that brought you to this practice today,
The idea that you're ready to get going with.
This is something in your life that you're ready to take action on,
That you're ready to pursue.
There's a small patch of unplanted,
Untended to soil to your left.
In this area there are grasses and weeds growing wild.
These are just like doubts in your mind.
They're not helpful to the environment of growing your seed.
So you kneel down,
Place your seed in a safe place off to one side and spend a few moments removing these weeds.
Uproot and discard your doubts and fears.
These reasons you tell yourself you're not ready,
The worries about what others might think.
Clear space in your garden,
Clear the space in your mind.
You may find that you have to come back regularly to combat the weeds which often grow more rapidly and readily than your seed.
Don't let them take over,
Don't let them throw shade in your mind or stunt your growth.
Now that you have cleared and removed the weeds,
It's time to plant your seed.
Mindfully prepare the soil and place the seed at just the right depth.
Then rake your fingers across the light soil to carefully cover it.
You pick a bright yellow watering can from the row and give your seed a splash of water.
You're ready to take care of his seed.
You're ready to take action towards your goal.
Take a comfortable seat on a bench nearest to you.
You feel content and at ease.
Remind yourself that even though you can't see the results of your seed planting today,
It doesn't mean that nothing is happening.
Similarly,
When you begin taking action towards your goal,
Remember that results may also take some time.
Can you commit internally to starting the process?
Think for a moment about the anticipated timeline of your desired goal.
If the goal is a seed,
Is it fast growing like a sunflower or slow growing like an oak tree?
Over the next few breaths,
Assess your relationship with patience when it comes to the time that this aspiration may take.
Prepare to give it time to develop and grow if necessary.
Settle into a feeling of contentment with everything taking the time that it takes.
Commit to practicing patience.
At the beginning of a project,
It's not uncommon to go all out,
To put 1000% of our time and effort into it for the first few days or weeks and then fatigued from the exertion or pull to other neglected commitments we simply stop.
Then we feel despondent that it hasn't progressed when we return to it in six months or a year or three years later.
We cannot give a whole year's worth of water to a plant in one go and then sit back and not care for it for the whole year while still expecting it to flourish.
This aspiration requires your regular focus.
You'll need to water your seed,
Prune or trim as the plant grows and sometimes you'll need to add more fertilizer,
More time and more effort.
This seed requires regular action and maintenance to grow.
Assess now in your mind what kind of action you'll need to take to get to your desired goal.
Is there a small action you can do daily and tasks you can complete weekly?
What might you need to do monthly?
Can you create a sustainable expectation of little and often rather than all or nothing?
Spend a few moments now thinking of some of the smaller,
Regular,
Realistic actions you can take to help you towards your aspiration.
Can you anticipate seasons within your timeline?
Sometimes it might seem like your plant is not growing at all when really it's just storing up energy and waiting to burst forth like a flower blooming in the spring.
Promise yourself now that during times of perceived stagnation that you won't give up too soon.
Remember that plants and projects alike take time to develop.
Again,
Be prepared to practice patience.
Be prepared to continue taking care of your plants with the end goal in mind.
And finally,
Let's time travel to the future for a moment.
Regardless of the results of your actions,
How will you feel knowing that you started towards this goal?
How will you feel knowing that you gave it the effort and attention it deserved?
How do you feel knowing you constantly pulled the weeds of fear and doubt and took action towards something that is important to you?
Regardless of the end result,
How will you feel knowing that you gave it true effort for a sustained period of time and even completed your project?
How does it feel knowing that you did what you said you were going to do?
That you did what you had dreamed of doing?
With many,
Maybe even all aspirations,
We can't know everything we'd like to know before we begin.
We can't know if the summer will be dry or wet when we plant our seed.
We simply plant and reassess as we go along,
Allowing our plans to adjust and accommodate whatever arises.
But we do have to start somewhere.
You have to plant the seed and help it grow.
You don't have to be perfect.
Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and to reassess.
You'll be able to modify and improve on your plans as you progress.
I encourage you to spend a few minutes as you end this practice,
Writing down your ideas and plans in your journal or a notebook,
And then taking a small action towards your aspiration.
Pull up some weeds and plant your seed.
I'm excited for you to begin.
Let's start today.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you feel safe.
May you be peaceful.
Thank you for joining me.
Namaste.

Unique and refreshing perspective on the topic of motivation and productivity, using this particular analogous visualisation. I will watch for, and eliminate the ‘weeds’ whilst nurturing my project/s to evolve and manifest to desired outcomes and fruition. Thank you. 🙏🏼💚🌱💚🌳💚🙏🏼
