Welcome friend,
This is Padma Gordon and I am really excited to offer you this guided meditation to support you to calm your nervous system before any kind of high stakes moments like presentations,
Performances,
Exams,
Competitions,
Or even a challenging conversation.
Any situation where fear of judgment or failure feels overwhelming,
This practice is intended to help you reconnect with your competence and feel grounded in the present.
So,
Let's begin.
Wherever you are,
Whatever is ahead of you today or in the days to come,
I invite you to take a moment to arrive here.
Sit comfortably.
Allow the shoulders to soften,
To drop down away from the ears.
Release your jaw and let the hands rest,
Palms up,
Open in your lap.
Taking a nice breath,
A generous breath in through the nose very slowly.
Allowing it to pour out through your mouth,
Just gently.
And let's do it again,
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
Whew,
Just taking a moment to settle,
Arriving here,
Arriving here and now.
And you're here because something ahead of you feels big,
Perhaps a presentation,
A performance,
A challenging conversation,
An exam,
A moment where you feel like you'll be watched,
Evaluated,
Measured,
A moment where you want to be your best,
You really want to shine.
Something inside you may have decided that this moment has the power to define you.
So,
Let's gently challenge that idea together.
I invite you to bring your awareness to the soles of the feet,
The soles of the feet,
Pressing them lightly into the floor.
Feel the ground meeting you,
Receiving you.
This is gravity.
It has held you for your entire life and it is holding you right now.
You are rooted,
You are connected to the earth beneath you.
And no amount of fear or nervousness can change that.
And now,
Bring your attention to your hands.
Let's squeeze them into fists.
Tight,
Tighter,
And hold.
Feel the tension building.
Let it build and build.
And now release both hands at once.
Let your fingers spread open wide and then go completely limp.
Take a breath and notice,
Just notice,
How your body already knows how to let go.
You don't have to teach it.
You just have to allow it.
Performance anxiety tells a particular story.
It says things like,
You're not ready,
You'll forget everything.
They'll see through you,
They'll know you're an imposter or that you'll fail and everyone will know.
Perhaps that voice feels authoritative,
But here's the thing,
It's not telling the truth.
It's offering you the worst case scenario as if it's the only option.
It's putting you into a negative trance.
In moments like these,
You're practicing negative self-hypnosis,
Which leaves out something important,
You,
Your preparation,
Your experience,
And your ability to adapt and respond in the moment.
It leaves out the reality that you've got this.
You've got this.
Let's breathe that in.
It's the truth,
My friend.
You've got this.
So let's do a little experiment.
I'd like you to think back to a time when you did something well.
It doesn't need to be anything grand.
Maybe it was a conversation where you said just what you wanted to say and it was the right thing.
Or a moment in your work where something clicked.
A time when you surprised yourself with what you were capable of.
So just allow a memory to surface.
No need to force it.
Just breathe and invite it in.
Now,
Feel what that memory feels like in your body.
Where do you feel confident or a sense of confidence?
Maybe it's a steadiness in your chest,
A quiet warmth in your core.
A feeling of being solid,
Present,
Capable.
That feeling is not a memory that belongs to the past.
It's a resource that is alive in you right now,
In your body,
And it's available to you whenever you need it.
So let's breathe together.
Inhale for a count of four and hold gently for four.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Let's exhale for six.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
This extended exhale is letting your nervous system know that you are safe.
You are safe.
There's only a moment ahead that is asking for grounded presence.
Grounded presence rather than perfection.
And again,
In for four,
Hold for four,
And out for six.
Let's do one more.
In for four,
Hold for four,
And out for six.
Now,
Just pause and notice yourself.
Now,
I'd like you to imagine the moment you've been anxious about,
But instead of watching it through the lens of fear,
Watch it through the lens of curiosity.
See yourself walking into that room,
Stepping onto that stage,
Beginning that conversation,
And instead of asking,
What if I fail?
Ask,
What if I'm present?
What if I'm present?
What if you simply showed up as you are with everything you already know and let it be enough?
Feel what it feels like in your body.
See the space around you.
Hear yourself speaking.
Smell any smells in the room.
And breathe.
This,
Friend,
Is how you ground into the reality that you want rather than the one you're afraid of.
There's no need to be perfect.
All that's needed is to be present as yourself.
People remember presence.
They remember the person who was genuinely there,
Not performing flawlessly,
Connecting authentically.
You've been in audiences before.
You know this is true.
The people who moved you weren't perfect.
They were real,
Relatable.
Their presence touched you.
Taking some breaths.
Just breathe naturally.
And silently repeat after me.
I have prepared.
I am capable.
I don't need to be perfect to be effective.
I've got this.
And breathe in.
I have prepared.
And breathe out.
I am capable.
Breathe in.
I don't need to be perfect.
Breathe out.
I've got this.
And breathe in.
I am enough.
I am enough.
I am enough just as I am.
I've got this.
I've got this.
I've got this.
I've got this.
Let the words settle into your body like stones sinking down into still water.
They don't need to float on the surface of your mind.
They can rest deep in your core,
Deep within,
Where your knowing lives.
Now,
Shake out your hands gently.
Roll the shoulders back and lift the crown of your head toward the sky.
Feel yourself tall,
Upright,
And open.
This is the posture of someone who trusts themselves,
Who knows they belong,
Who knows they've got this.
After all,
You were invited or you chose to be there.
Either way,
You have earned your place.
You belong.
You've got this.
Take one more deep breath in,
Gathering all the calm and steadiness you've cultivated in this practice.
And exhale,
Letting go of the need to control the outcome.
You cannot control the outcome.
You can only show up and be present as yourself.
And you can trust your presence is more than enough.
Your presence is more than enough.
And you've got this.
You've got this.
So just take some breaths.
Feel how it feels to know deep inside that you've got this.
And very gently,
The eyes can come open as you're ready.
Go softly.
Go confidently.
Not because everything will go perfectly,
But because you'll be there,
Present,
Grounded,
And aware.
And that is what matters.
That is what matters.
Thank you so much for practicing with me.
And remember,
You've got this.
You've got this.
And I want to invite you to listen to this meditation every day for seven days or even 14 days.
And notice what happens.
Notice how confidence and relaxed presence will continue to grow and expand.
And how you walk through the world knowing you've got this.
