Let your weight drop.
Through your feet into the floor.
You don't have to hold yourself up so carefully here.
Find your breath.
Don't change it,
Just locate it.
The air at the nose or the chest moving.
And now I want you to try something small.
Follow one single breath all the way in.
All the way out.
Without your mind going anywhere else at all.
Just one.
Starting now.
Be honest with yourself.
Did you make it?
For almost everyone,
No.
Somewhere in that one breath,
The mind slipped off.
A thought,
A sound,
A plan.
Am I doing this right?
And that's not a failure.
That's the most normal thing about being a human being.
But sit with that.
What does it tell you?
You came to a gym tonight,
A room built for training the body.
You probably trained the body for years.
Now here's the question I want to ask.
The thing that operates the body,
Your attention,
How long have you spent training that?
You just watched it.
It can't hold still for one breath.
And yet you ask it to run the show.
Every rep.
Every lift.
Every decision.
While it's scattered across a dozen places at once.
So here's the reframe for everything we are about to do.
The strongest tool you own is in a muscle.
It's your attention.
And it's the only thing in this entire building you will never have to queue for,
Pay for.
Or be strong enough to use.
You've just been leaving it switched off.
This is the first principle and the only one you really need.
Mindfulness is paying attention on purpose to right now.
With compassion and kindness.
And when the mind wanders,
You don't fail.
You notice and you come back.
That coming back is the rep,
Is the practice.
And you will do it on the floor exactly the way you just did it on the breath.
Feel the difference between the two things,
Pushing harder,
Gritting,
Grinding.
And being here,
Present in the muscles,
Steady in the breath.
Most of us have spent years mistaking the first one for effort.
Today we practice the second.
One slow breath in.
And a longer breath out.
We are about to move,
Not to perform,
Not to chase a number that lives in the future.
Just to be genuinely,
Unusually present for work you are already doing.
One word for the session?
Control,
Patience or Presence.
Choose it.
One more breath in.
.
.
Let it go,
And open your eyes.
Let's go and train the muscle nobody told you about.
