Hello,
Hello.
Thank you for joining me for this little distant Reiki meditation for the roots.
Distant Reiki,
Which is what I'll be offering for this meditation,
Is based on a simple but profound understanding.
Energy is not confined to the body,
And healing is not confined to a room.
In quantum physics,
This is known as nonlocality.
The demonstrated phenomenon in which two particles,
Once connected,
Can influence each other instantly,
Regardless of the distance between them.
Reiki operates on a similar principle.
When a practitioner establishes a clear healing intention and enters a focused meditative state,
A connection is formed.
Not through physical proximity,
But through this field of consciousness that underlies all living things.
And within that connection,
Healing energy moves freely,
And distance is never an obstacle.
So before we begin,
I want to ask you to do one thing.
Not to visualize,
Not even to breathe in a particular way,
Or to understand anything.
Simply to receive.
Make a decision right now to be someone who is in a space of receiving.
Place your hands open at your sides,
Palms up,
And feel the small act of just openness in that gesture.
Say it inwardly,
If it helps.
I am open,
I am receiving,
And I allow this.
And that is all that's required of you.
Trust the energy will do the rest.
Now rest your hands back down on your lap,
And begin by feeling the surface beneath you.
Really feel it.
Feeling the ground,
The surface.
Don't just acknowledge it intellectually.
Arrive in it.
Feel the specific texture of where your body makes contact.
What are you sitting on?
It's a floor,
Or a couch,
A bed,
A cushion,
A yoga mat.
Feel the give of what holds you.
Notice the weight of your hips,
The backs of your thighs,
The soft heaviness of your shoulders.
Settling downward without you having to do anything at all,
This is physics.
And it is also grace.
You are held always by something far larger and older than your worry.
Take a breath in,
And when you're ready,
Let it fall out.
Not be pushed out,
Just released.
Like setting something down you didn't even realize that you were holding.
Feel the awareness at the soles of your feet.
Even if your feet are not touching the ground,
Just bring every ounce of your attention there to the heel of the right foot,
The left foot.
Feel the arch of the right foot,
The left foot,
The ball of the foot.
Feel the toes,
The toes of both feet.
Keep your awareness on the foot as a whole,
Because the foot is one of the most nerve-dense surfaces of the body.
It is wired with thousands of sensory receptors designed to read the ground,
To orient you,
To tell you you are here,
You are real,
You are located.
So I want you to feel into that now.
Feel up your legs,
Into your calves,
Through the knees and the thighs.
You may feel a warm sensation,
The slow spreading heat.
I'm bringing it to the base of your spine.
So I'm going to begin to work here,
At the tailbone,
At the sacrum.
Some will feel the distant reiki like a heating pad that wasn't there a moment ago,
Or a subtle pulsing,
A gentle throb.
You might feel that at the base of the spine.
You may feel a heaviness,
A pleasant weighted heaviness.
Let yourself be anchored down.
It's not the heaviness of a burden.
This is the heaviness of belonging,
Of rooting,
Of grounding.
As you bring your awareness to the base of your spine,
What is there?
Warmth,
A tingling,
A loosening?
Simply observe without needing to name it.
The root chakra is the energy center that governs your most fundamental relationship,
The one with safety,
With the right to exist,
With the body itself as a trustworthy home for you.
Many of us live above the root,
Up in the chest,
In the throat,
In the spinning mind.
We're untethered from the ground of ourselves.
And when the root is dysregulated,
We can feel this low-grade anxiety.
It's just this chronic anxiety,
This restlessness,
A persistent sense that the floor might just drop out from underneath us at any moment.
But the reiki,
Which is moving through the space right now,
Is speaking directly to this part of you,
Not the thinking mind.
It's speaking to the older animal intelligence that lives below the navel,
In the pelvis,
In the bones,
That part of you that knows how to breathe before it knows how to speak.
I want you to soften your belly.
Exhale.
Breathe in.
Breathe into your root chakra.
Exhale.
Breathing in and breathing out,
Down through the tailbone,
Down through the floor,
The earth beneath you.
Breathe down beneath the floorboards of this room that you're in or beneath the soil that has been accumulating for 10,
000 years below you through that compressed memory of ancient forests and glaciers and ocean floors,
Right down to the very bottom,
Down through the aquifer,
The bedrock,
Down to the slow,
Enormous grinding of tectonic plates.
Just keep dropping your awareness down until your exhale finds the molten core of the earth and just rest here for a moment.
And then feel the earth breathe back up so it's like heat is rising from that center,
This slow current that's moving through the same pathway,
Through the stone and through the soil and through the foundation and through the floor and right into your body.
You might feel it through your sits bones,
Through your feet,
Through your legs,
Through your ankles rising up to your calves like warm water filling a vessel.
Let the hips receive this.
And if there's tightness in your legs or your hips,
And there often is because the hips are where we store what we could not outrun in this lifetime,
I want you to breathe into it.
We're just clearing away what no longer serves,
Letting this warmth sort of dissolve,
Tension that's been stored,
Old stories,
Bringing balance back to this root chakra here,
Letting the heat continue to rise,
Meeting the Reiki that's already working at the base of your spine now.
And when they meet,
Earth energy rising from below,
Healing energy moving from above,
You may feel something click into place,
Like a setting in place that is almost audible,
Like a door finding its frame,
Like a key turning in a lock.
This is what grounding feels like.
It's not a concept.
It's not a metaphor,
But physical.
The nervous system recognizes solid ground,
And it responds accordingly.
The amygdala,
Your brain's ancient sentinel,
It is always scanning for a threat.
And when this happens,
It begins to stand down.
And the breath can deepen without effort,
And the jaw will soften,
And the hands will uncurl.
So do you feel your hands right now?
Are they open,
Closed?
Without forcing them,
I want you to just let your fingers relax.
Let your palms face upward if that feels natural,
That gesture of receiving.
And notice your hands.
Some people feel the reiki there in the palms,
Like heat or tingling,
A gentle buzz.
So at this time,
I'm moving through the entire root system.
It's not just the base of the spine now,
But now it's the hips,
The pelvis,
The bones,
The legs,
The feet,
The energetic roots as well that extend from the soles all the way down into the earth.
You can picture them as actual roots,
In fact,
Thick and living and branching deeper with every breath.
And they are not delicate roots.
These are roots of something ancient,
Something that has survived droughts and storms and seasons of darkness,
And always,
Always found its way back to the light.
That is you,
And that has always been you.
You are not a leaf blown about in the weather of your life.
You have roots.
And right now,
In this moment,
In this body,
On this earth,
These roots are being tended.
So I want you to rest here and just breathe slowly.
Continue to feel the weight of your body as evidence of your belonging to the ground,
To this life,
To yourself.
You're not floating in space.
You're not lost.
You are here.
And when you're ready to return,
Do not rush.
Just start to deepen your breath.
Wiggle your fingers,
Your toes.
Take a breath that just fills the entire body from the crown down to the soles of your feet.
Take a moment to press your palms into the surface beneath you,
Whatever it is,
A couch,
A bed,
A floor,
The ground,
Floorboards.
Feel the resistance of the ground sort of pushing back.
That resistance is a greeting right now to you,
The earth confirming,
Yes,
Yes,
You are here,
You are real,
You are held.
You are now anchored and grounded.
And I want you to carry this with you when you rise.
Thank you so much for carving some time out to receive some Reiki healing.
I hope that you enjoyed the practice.
Namaste.
