Hello,
Nancy here from Nancy Inspired and I have a sleepy bedtime story for you.
Before we begin,
Let's just get cuddled in into your bed and let's say a little thank you to our blanket.
Thank you blankets for keeping me cozy and warm and let's say a little thank you to our pillow.
Thank you pillow for resting my head and letting me have good dreams.
Maybe a little thank you to your room or the moon above or the stars above and a deep breath in with gratitude for the people that love you.
This is a little story about three kittens.
In a quiet little town where the street lamps glowed like warm fireflies,
There lived three kittens who loved bedtime more than anything else in the world.
Of course yummy snacks and playing with friends were a pretty close second but cozying up in bed at the end of a wonderful day was truly the most amazing feeling.
There was Mallow who was the youngest of the three.
Mallow was a small fluffy white kitten whose fur looked like it was spun from clouds.
Her coat was thick and soft with little wisps that puffed out around her ears and tail making her look slightly rounder than she really was.
When she moved it's quietly and carefully just like she's floating rather than walking.
Her paws are a pale pink and always warm and her whiskers curve gently downward giving her a tender thoughtful expression.
Her eyes are a soft gray blue just like the sky before the snow and often her long eyelashes would blink slowly especially when she felt safe.
When Mallow curls up she becomes almost perfectly round.
Her nose tucked in,
Tail wrapped close,
Radiating coziness with her purrs.
She smells faintly like clean blankets and warm milk.
Her presence feels comforting like a big deep breath.
Mallow loves bedtime because she loves cozy feelings and soft thoughts.
Pip was the middle kitten,
A striped orange kitten with a purse so deep and happy it could wobble the teacups.
His purr came straight from his heart and right into yours if you had the chance to hear it.
Pip is a bright orange tabby cat with darker stripes that ripple across his sides and tail like gentle waves.
His fur is shorter than Mallow's and always slightly rumpled as if he's just finished playing which most of the time he just has.
His ears are a little too big for his head and one often tilts slightly forward when he's curious or excited.
His eyes are a warm amber gold full of spark and movement.
His tail swishes when he's thinking and flicks when he's restless.
Pip's chest vibrates easily with his purrs,
Deep resonant and soothing.
When he settles his whole body just hums softly like an engine.
His paws are sturdy and grounded and when he relaxes his shoulders visibly drop.
Even though Pip is usually always moving,
Making his circles to settle into his bed is his very favorite time of the day.
And Luna,
Luna is the eldest of the three kitties.
She is a silky black kitten whose eyes sparkle like stars.
Her fur is so smooth it looks like polished velvet.
In the moonlight her coat shimmers faintly revealing subtle silver highlights that appear and disappear when she moves.
Her eyes are large and luminous,
Deep green with flecks of gold like stars caught in a forest pool.
They reflect the light easily and seem to notice everything around her without staring.
Her whiskers are long and straight,
Always gently forward as if listening.
Luna moves quietly and deliberately.
She often pauses before acting,
Sitting tall with perfect posture.
When she rests she tucks her paws neatly beneath her radiating calm.
There's always a sense that she knows something but she won't rush to say it and often keeps it to herself.
She loves to watch her younger siblings discover things for themselves.
Luna listened closely to the night,
To her whiskers and to her inner knowing.
Every night when the clock chimed its soft eight chimes,
The kittens gathered by the window to watch the moon rise.
Together they took slow gentle breaths in through their noses and out through their mouths just like they always did before sleep.
They were just about to take a turn saying what they were grateful for that day when something seemed a little different.
As the moon lifted above the rooftops it shimmered a bit brighter than usual as if it was smiling just for them.
Suddenly a sliver of moonlight started to swirl down towards them and spilled into the room curling playfully around the kittens paws.
It felt warm and safe like a hug made of light.
There was a quiet tinkling sound like little bells.
Then all three kittens heard a voice that sounded like a mixture of a cat's comforting purr and tinkling bells.
Because you breathed so softly and let the day grow still,
Because you thanked the little things and rested in that feel,
The night grew bright and noticed your hearts began to glow.
Stillness opened moonlit doors.
You're ready now to know.
So step where calm and thankful meet.
Let wonder lead the way.
The moonbeam comes for those who pause and name one thing they're thankful for each day.
The kittens took a deep breath in and looked at each other.
Follow me,
The ribbon of moonlight whispered.
You are protected.
You are loved.
Luna listened to that voice inside herself and she knew that she was safe.
Her whiskers trembled with recognition and curiosity.
Pip's tail puffed with excitement.
As the impulsive adventurous one,
He was ready to go before the last word was even finished.
Mallow let out a tiny brave the kind you make when you trust the moment and are ready for an opportunity.
Together,
They stepped onto the moonlit ribbon.
Up,
Up,
Up,
They drifted floating like feathered dandelion seeds until they landed gently on a soft glowing path made entirely of moonbeams.
They floated on the moonbeams past the roofs of houses,
Past the tips of the trees.
They felt warm and comfortable as they passed the starlight that felt like soft kisses on the cheeks.
The path glowed brighter beneath their paws knowing exactly where they needed to go.
They watched with amazement.
Luna began to feel an energy inside,
Like when you're on your way to see someone that you love very much.
Pip was excited and filled with a calm energy that made him feel like he could do anything.
Mallow felt a comforting presence that made her feel brave and loved.
Just then,
The three kittens saw the most beautiful cats they had ever laid eyes on just on the path ahead of them.
It was the shadow cats walking with graceful paws that shimmered like dark silk,
Quiet guardians of dreams.
The shadow cats are tall,
Elegant cats with long limbs and graceful necks.
Their fur is a deep charcoal,
Midnight blue or soft black,
And it shifts suddenly with the light adding little bits of silver and gold,
Never fully dark and never fully bright.
Their eyes glow faintly,
Silver,
Pale gold or violet,
And they hold an ancient wisdom and calm.
When they move,
Their paws make no sound at all,
And their tails sweep slowly like pendulums steadying the space around them.
Each shadow cat carries a sense of protection without threat.
Their presence feels like being watched over by the night itself,
Firm,
Kind,
Unshakable.
They smell faintly of cool air and moonstone.
When they speak,
Their voices are low and slow,
Never rushed.
They often bow or lower themselves to meet the others at eye level.
One of the shadow cats stepped forward and bowed,
Her eyes glowing softly like candlelight in the dark.
You are here,
She said gently,
Because you remembered how to be still.
She looked at each kitten with quiet knowing.
You slowed your breath,
You softened your bodies,
You spoke with gratitude before you sleep.
The moonlight around them started to shimmer.
When hearts grow calm and thankful,
The shadow cat continued,
They become light enough to travel.
She lifted her paw toward the glowing path.
The moonlit whisker parade is not a place you find,
It is a place you enter.
It appears when dreamers remember who they are beneath the day,
When worries rest,
When love is felt,
When the night opens.
The other shadow cats bowed.
This parade is a gathering of gentle teachers,
They said together,
Those who help carry calm,
Courage,
Joy,
And remembering back to the world.
You are not here by accident,
The first shadow cat whispered.
You are here because you're ready to learn and ready to rest.
She smiled softly.
Walk with us now,
The night is kind and you are welcome.
Before them stretched a parade unlike anything that they'd seen on earth.
First came the moon mice,
Wearing tiny hats made of stardust,
Each one glowing with a different color of joy.
The moon mice are tiny,
Cute,
Round-bodied mice with silvery gray fur that glows softly as if dusted with the moonlight itself.
Their eyes are bright and curious,
Like drops of light and their noses twitch constantly with delight.
They wear tiny hats and scarves or vest made of stardust and always slightly mismatched but always twinkling.
Their tails are thin but sweet,
Curling when they laugh or straightening when they're concentrating.
They move in hops and rolls and spins rather than straight lines.
They laugh,
It sounds like soft bells or tiny giggles.
Their energy is playful but gentle,
Never overwhelming.
Pip wanted to jump in and play with the mice to feel joy take over from his ears to his tail.
But the comet crickets came next,
Hopping and chirping bright little songs that tickled the air and made the kittens feel even lighter inside.
The comet crickets are slender luminous insects with translucent wings that trail faint lines of light as they move.
Their bodies glow in soft colors,
Gold,
Blue,
Green,
Or violet,
Depending on the song they are singing.
Their wings shimmer like glass and when they chirp the sounds feel rhythmic rather than sharp.
Their eyes are small but wise,
Reflecting the starlight.
They move in arcs and spirals,
Rarely hopping randomly.
Their presence feels focused,
Intentional,
And calm.
When many comet crickets sing together,
The air itself stops to listen.
Luna took in all the wonderful sights and sounds but she had a sense that there was something more there that they weren't seeing.
One of the shadow cats noticed and pointed out the observing owls.
The observing owls are quiet,
Round-bodied owls who perch along the edges of the moonlit whisker parade.
They do not march or dance,
They just simply are.
Their feathers are layered with soft shades of cream,
Silver,
And warm brown,
Like moonlight resting on old trees.
Their wings are wide but rarely spread out.
Their eyes are large and dark and kind,
Reflecting the night rather than shining through it.
When they blink,
It is slow and deliberate.
They smell faintly of pine trees and night air and something deeply familiar.
The owls don't need to do anything to be part of the parade,
They just are.
Without any signal,
The parade slowed,
Growing quiet and still.
The shadow cats gathered the into a calm circle.
Before we walk,
The shadow cat purred,
We share a gift with all dreamers.
She lifted her paw and the moonlight softened.
Place one paw on your heart,
She said.
The kittens did.
Now take a slow breath in and let it fall out gently.
Pip's purr slowed to a steady hum,
Mallow felt a warm glow bloom in her chest,
And Luna felt a quiet sparkle calm and sure.
Imagine that warm feeling gently growing,
The shadow cat whispered,
Until it becomes soft shining bubble all around you.
A glowing bubble appeared around each kitten,
Smooth,
Warm,
And peaceful.
This bubble is made of calm,
She said.
Only love and safe dreams may come inside.
Anything heavy floats gently away.
The shadow cat spoke again.
This bubble can be called upon anytime,
She purred,
With breath and with words.
She invited them to say the words together out or quietly inside.
I am safe.
I am calm.
I am loved.
My bubble is here.
As the word settled,
The bubbles shimmered softly,
Moving easily with each breath.
If you need it stronger,
The shadow cat said,
You may say it three times.
But if you're tired,
Once is enough.
She bowed.
Now she smiled.
You are ready.
And the parade began again.
Pip trotted beside the moon mice,
His chest gently vibrating with each sleepy purr.
Mallow happily followed the comet crickets,
Her bubble glowing like a pearl in the moonlight.
Luna walked with the shadow cats,
Noticing the presence of the observing owls,
Her bubble calm and steady like a quiet star.
Above them all,
The moon hummed a lullaby,
A low gentle tune full of soft light and sleepy warmth.
With every note,
The kittens felt their bodies grow heavier and their thoughts grow quieter.
Eventually the silver ribbon returned,
Swirling lovingly around their paws.
It's time to go home,
It whispered.
Take the calm with you.
The kittens floated back down to their cozy room,
Landing in a soft pile of blankets.
Pip yawned,
His purr fading into a sleepy hum.
Mallow curled into a perfect little ball and Luna tucked her nose beneath her paws,
Safe,
Peaceful and held.
As they drifted into sleep,
The moon peeked through the window and twinkled just for them.
And if you listen very closely,
You could still hear the faintest echo of the moonlight whisker parade drifting down from the sky.
Sleep well,
You are safe,
You are calm,
You are loved,
You are purr-fect.
