Poem: From The Very Beginning

An original poem by Heidi Fischer. Written in a dreamy style, meant to evoke the feeling of tiredness that often accompanies depression. It speaks of the comfort and safety of the bed, which can become difficult to escape in an ever-increasing fashion. It reminds us that ultimately it is up to us to find the way out. The poem opens/closes with chimes and very light music plays in the background.

From the very beginning, My heart has been singing. A song that is strong and beneath. It's wrapped up in layers and all of the players get hidden, Lost like a thief. When will you hear it? You won't until it's released. I don't know the words and I can't play the chords, But it ticks like a metronome beast. The bed holds in its womb safe ocean blue sheets, Drenched in light cotton air, Refusing to ever be breached. But the sky is breathing out wisdom that the crib holds down in its fleece. So you look to the sun or you give up to the moon, Knowledge is better in speech. A pound weighs the same no matter the name. I yearn to be free and snared by a drape, Starched with erroneous belief. So I look for the lever that pulls and will sever, Dusted with tears and with grief. My fingertips reach it and the liquid that leaves it is not sorrow, It's me. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid.
