I have rights, and so do you. This audio is inspired by author and therapist, Pete Walker and his: "Human Bill of Rights". Important reminders that are useful for anyone, and that may be especially helpful for folks who have experience with Complex PTSD, PTSD, Trauma, or other related disorders. Spoken in the first-person language and set to gentle music. Music by Kevin MacLeod: "Dewdrop Fantasy"

I have rights.

I have the right to have my basic human needs met.

I have the right to my own opinions,

Thoughts,

Ideas,

Dreams,

And hopes.

I can change my mind,

Learn and grow.

I can stay where it's comfortable for a while.

I have the right to my emotions.

There is nothing wrong or right with any of them.

I can lose my temper.

I can cry,

Laugh,

And let out a sigh.

I will not hurt others when I express myself,

And I also recognize occasional mistakes are only human.

So long as there is not a legal,

Moral,

Or ethical reason to stop me,

I can do whatever I want and not do whatever I want as well.

I have the right to set boundaries.

I have the right to have my point of view to be listened to.

I have the right to be treated with respect and dignity.

I have the right to an equal share of the conversation.

I have the right to end relationships,

To create new connections,

And to develop the ones that I already have.

I have the right to take time to think things over.

I don't always have to say the right thing or have the perfect answer.

I can ask questions.

I have the right to rest and relaxation.

I can put off my responsibilities for a reasonable amount of time.

I can pursue hobbies,

Play,

Act silly,

And have good old-fashioned fun.

I can take naps,

Sleep in,

And stay up late.

These are normal human behaviors.

I have the right to my own interests.

I can be a fan or nerd out over whatever it is I enjoy.

I can unironically like stuff and should not be made fun of for it if others don't understand.

I have the right to my own style and way of existing within the world.

I can try out changes and if they don't fit,

I can go back or try something new.

I have the right to receive outside support when I need it.

I have the right to autonomy.

I have the right to try things on my own.

I have more rights than these.

I will think about what those might be.

I will take what I've heard here today and hold on to what suits me and let go of what doesn't.

I will remind myself that I have these rights.

I will be alert to infringements and to the best of my ability not allow them to continue.

I will continually work on the way I interact with myself and stand in defiance of others who do not respect my rights.

I will show myself compassion when I make mistakes.

I will be patient with myself as I learn to believe in these rights.

I really like this, here’s a genuine problem I have, and I suspect others will identify, how do you express them your way, and not compete with loud and vexatious people, you also love? I was known as “the quiet one” of 4 siblings. He’s still in there, but he learned to shout like them and I hate it. It is tiring and stressful. Ive tried and tried for years and years to be listened to and heard. How do you get people to just even meet you half way, let alone come to my level, quiet, and nice and slow. But I do love this and have shared it and will repeat it until I accept it as true. Thank you

Wow, I’ve never heard about these basic rights; the traumatic environment of my family kept this from me. Now that I’m healing, I’ll add this to my new life. Thank you 🙏 ❤️
