Jarka Shafiq is a holistic wellness guide with over 15 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. Beginning her own weight loss journey at the age of 14, she overcame years of dieting, disordered eating, and self-rejection—experiences that deeply inform her compassionate, whole-person approach. As a seasoned personal trainer and a dedicated student of psychosomatics, Jarka combines practical expertise with emotional insight to explore the true root causes of weight struggles. I feel like I have gained such a fresh perspective on everything that contributes to both my failures & successes in my constant journey to focus on taking care of myself. My weight has been an issue since I was 5. I’ve had incredible times of confidence, self love, creativity & success, all very rewarding. But then, as in any lifetime, an intense whirling dervish sweeps through my life & I’m off and running into stress & overwhelm and I put myself on the back burner. Food being my emotional support, trying to fill that void of “internal starvation”. So many things hit home. In the last 5 years, I’ve lost my husbandI, moved back home to be with family members having severe problems. In the midst of what seemed insanity, I experienced a bout with cancer for the second time. The last 3 years was a struggle on every level. The weight piled on. As I recovered, I realized it was time to reflect, delve deep & make a change, body, mind & spirit. There’s much work to do! Thank you for creating this poignant journey. It was very insightful!
