Transcript

Mindfulness is the foundational skill in dialectical behavior therapy.

The practice of mindfulness promotes presence and attuned awareness,

Both of which contribute to a stable state of emotion regulation.

Enabling and supporting emotion regulation,

And thus self-empowerment,

Is the major goal of dialectical behavior therapy.

Because it is from a regulated emotional state that we are our most effective,

Relationally and interpersonally,

And with regard to our own sense of self.

Mindfulness is meant to be practiced both with the exercises provided here on Insight Timer,

And moment to moment throughout the day.

Regular use of a variety of mindfulness practices helps train us to be more mindful moment to moment throughout the day,

And promotes readiness for when difficult thoughts,

Feelings,

And experiences present.

As we practice,

We develop the reflexive ability to maintain an attuned,

Focused presence in this moment.

In other words,

This is how we become able to be here now.
