Unshakable.
A meditation on doubt.
Find a comfortable position.
Either seated.
.
.
Or lying down.
Gently close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in through the nose,
Filling your lungs completely.
And then exhale slowly through your mouth.
Let go of the tension in your shoulders.
Your jaw.
In your hands.
Today.
We're not trying to relax in the traditional sense.
We're not trying to clear our minds of thought.
Instead.
We're going to practice a form of mental clarity.
Called radical doubt.
We will temporarily set aside everything we think we know.
Not because it's false but to see what remains when we stop assuming everything is certain.
So let's begin.
Phase 1 doubting the senses.
Bring your attention to the physical sensations around you.
Feel the weight of your body on the chair or the floor.
Notice the temperature of the air on your skin.
Hear the sounds in the room.
Usually,
We trust these senses implicitly.
We assume the floor is solid.
The air is real.
The sounds are happening exactly as we hear them.
But consider this.
Your senses have been fooled before.
Have you ever seen the shadow and thought it was a person?
Have you ever felt a phantom vibration in your pop gear?
For the next minute.
Allow yourself to question the reliability of what you feel.
Acknowledge the sensation of the chair or the floor beneath you.
But silently say to yourself.
This is just a sensation.
It might not be what it seems.
Don't reject the feeling.
Just stop assuming you know exactly what is causing her.
Let the solidity of the world become slightly fluid.
Phase 2 The dream state.
Now deepen your inquiry.
Think about how vivid your dreams can be.
When you're in a dream.
The world feels completely real.
You feel pain.
Joy Gravity.
And time passing.
It's only upon waking that you realize it was a construct of your mind.
So ask yourself.
How do I know I'm not dreaming right now?
There's no definitive test you can perform in this moment.
To prove you're awake.
The logic of the dream feels perfect.
While you're in it.
So,
For now.
.
.
Let go of the assumption that this moment is reality.
And the next.
Is illusion.
Treat this present moment as potentially being a vivid,
Coherent dream.
Imagine that the room around you.
.
.
A sound you hear.
Even the sense of your own body.
Might be a projection of your mind.
Notice how that feels.
Does it create anxiety?
Or does it create a strange sense of lightness?
If the world is a dream.
Then the stakes are lower.
The rigid rules of reality soften.
Just float in this possibility.
Phase three,
Doubting logic and memory.
Go even deeper.
Usually.
We trust that logic.
We know that 2 plus 2 equals 4.
We know that a triangle has three sides.
We trust our memories of who we are.
And where we come from.
But imagine just her alignment.
That even these fundamental truths can be uncertain.
Imagine that your mind is capable of constructing a reality.
Where logic works differently.
Or where your memories are implanted narratives.
Rather than historical facts.
This is not about believing that 2 plus 2 equals 5.
It's about suspending the certainty that you are right.
Release the grip you have on your own identity.
It might not be the person you think you are.
You might not be in the place you think you are.
Even the concept of time passing right now could be an illusion.
Let go of the need to be right.
That gave the need for the world to make sense in the way you expect it to.
Drift into this space of total uncertainty.
There is no floor.
No ceiling.
No past.
No future.
There is only the experience of the present moment,
Stripped of all labels and assumptions.
Phase 4 The Observer remains.
Sitting the silence.
You have doubted your senses.
You have doubted the reality of the world.
Your doubted logic and memory.
Everything is uncertain.
But notice one thing.
There is still an experience happening.
Even if everything you perceive as an illusion.
Something is perceiving it.
Even if the thought,
I am doubting,
Is part of a dream.
The act of doubting is occurring.
There is a presence here that is aware of the uncertainty.
You cannot doubt that you are experiencing doubt.
You cannot doubt that there is consciousness present.
Rest in this realization.
You don't need to know your name.
Your location.
Or your history to exist in this moment.
You don't need to trust your eyes or your mind.
The only thing that remains undeniable is the awareness itself.
Finally,
Returning with fresh eyes.
Slowly.
Begin to let assumptions return.
Allow the floor to become solid again.
Allow the sounds to become external events.
Allow your name and story to settle back onto your shoulders.
But try to keep a tiny sliver of that doubt alive.
Carry with you the knowledge that your perception is a construction.
Not a perfect mirror of reality.
When you open your eyes.
See the world,
Not as a thick set of facts.
But as a fresh experience.
Newly interpreted by your mind.
So take a deep breath in now and acknowledge the certainty of your own awareness.
And exhale.
Releasing the need for everything else to be fixed.
So whenever you're ready now.
Just very gently start to open your eyes.
And sit there a moment.
Allowing yourself to be brought back gently into the room.
