If your body feels tight or braced or like it's holding around pain,
In this practice we're simply easing that protective holding even slightly.
You do not have to change everything all at once,
Just a little less effort where it's possible.
If it feels okay,
Let your body rest where it is and for a moment notice what's already holding you.
Whatever you're sitting or lying on,
Letting it take a little more of the load.
Now gently bring your attention to where your body is working.
Holding can feel like clenching,
Gripping,
Lifting the shoulders,
Tightening the belly,
Pressing the tongue or bracing through the legs.
There's nothing wrong with this,
Your body learned to do this to protect you and right now it might not need to hold quite so tightly.
We're not focusing on the pain itself,
Just the places around it.
And we're not trying to release everything,
Just noticing and allowing a small easing where it's possible.
You might start with your jaw,
Is there any holding there and if it feels okay part the teeth slightly.
Lips resting softly together or gently parted,
Just a small easing and notice what it's like to use a little less effort there.
And now your tongue,
If it's pressing to the roof of the mouth or bracing behind the teeth,
Just let it rest and notice the difference.
Good,
Now moving to your shoulders,
Are they lifted or pulled up as if they've been carrying the day?
If it feels okay,
On the next exhale allow them to drop just a fraction,
Not forcing them down,
Just letting them be a little less activated,
Just letting them soften a little more with the out-breath.
Now your hands,
Are they gripping,
Holding or bracing?
Just let them soften,
Maybe the fingers can uncurl slightly one at a time or simply letting the palms be less tense.
If your hands are painful or hard to soften that's okay,
You can choose another area that feels more neutral.
Now your chest,
Sometimes the body holds here without us noticing,
See if there's any tightness or any guarding and without forcing change,
Just allowing a little space by taking a deeper breath in and exhaling out,
Just letting the chest soften with every exhale.
Now the belly,
Just notice if that's holding and if it feels okay,
Just letting it expand with every out-breath,
Just enough.
Now moving to your hips and see if there's any gripping or any bracing and if it feels okay just let them relax into the support beneath you,
Letting that support do more of the work,
Just taking the load off you.
Now your legs,
Are they braced,
Are they heavy or feel stiff?
If it feels okay,
Just allow more of the weight of your legs to drop down into the surface supporting you.
Let it hold and support you,
Wherever they are,
Just let them have a little less effort.
You don't have to do all of this,
Just noticing what stands out and what your body needs.
And if noticing any place makes the sensation feel stronger,
That's okay,
Come back to something neutral,
Just focus on the area that feels less charged,
We're not forcing release,
We're allowing a little less effort.
You might begin to sense the difference between holding and not holding,
Even if it's very subtle.
And if there's a place that feels slightly less tight or more neutral,
Let your attention rest there just for a few moments.
Allow that area to show your body what ease feels like.
Even a small shift matters,
You might notice a softening,
A loosening or simply less effort in how you're holding yourself.
And if the tension returns,
That's okay,
That's your nervous system doing what it's learned to do and you can meet it the same way,
Noticing,
Allowing,
Softening,
Even slightly.
Your body doesn't need everything to release,
Just enough.
As you stay here,
You may begin to feel a little more space in your body,
Not because the pain is gone,
But because there's less holding around it and that can make a difference.
So for a few more moments,
Let your body soften where it can and leave the rest alone,
No forcing,
No fixing,
Just less effort where it's possible.
And as we come toward the end of this time,
Just notice what's here now.
You may still feel the sensation and you might also notice a little more ease,
A little less tension or simply less effort in your body.
You can stay here for a little longer,
Just resting,
Simply letting your body continue to soften in the background.
And if you're moving into your next moment,
Move gently in your own time.
And if you notice yourself bracing again,
Soften just one place and let that be enough.
Taking a deep breath in,
Knowing you can return to the space whenever you need.
