Hello,
And welcome to this winter solstice meditation.
My name is Kristen Simons,
And I am grateful to share this space with you today.
Before we begin,
If you'd like to have a journal handy,
Or perhaps even a cup of tea on this cold winter day,
Please grab that now.
Before we begin the meditation,
I will provide some background information about the solstice.
The winter solstice,
Also known as the hibernal solstice,
Occurs when either of the Earth's poles are tilted away from the Sun at their maximum point.
In the Northern Hemisphere,
This happens each December around the 21st of the month,
While in the Southern Hemisphere,
The winter solstice is celebrated around June 21st each year.
The winter solstice is the day of the year with the shortest amount of sunlight,
Lasting about 9 hours and 34 minutes.
The word solstice comes from the Latin words sol and sestire,
Which means sun and to stand still.
This is because during the winter solstice,
The Sun appears to stand still in the sky.
According to Celtic mythology,
The winter solstice signifies a fierce battle between the Holly King and the Oak King.
The Holly King represents the darkness surrounding us during the winter,
While the Oak King represents the light that will soon return to our days.
As the two opposing forces clash,
The Oak King emerges victorious,
Marking the beginning of a new year and the return of sunlight.
This ancient legend is a reminder that even during the darkest times,
There is always hope for brighter days ahead.
The solstice is a time of celebration and rebirth.
You may light some nontoxic candles and fill your home with the scents of pine or cinnamon.
Take some time to contemplate how you have been reborn or renewed throughout the year.
As human beings,
We are complex creatures,
With both positive and negative qualities residing within us.
Our light side represents our creativity,
Kindness,
And compassion,
While our shadow side encompasses darker traits such as anger,
Fear,
Or jealousy.
Despite these opposing forces,
They are two sides of the same coin,
Enabling us to achieve a state of equilibrium and ultimately,
Wholeness.
Even when we find ourselves in times of darkness,
Where the shadows seem to have the upper hand,
We can take comfort in knowing that this too shall pass,
And the light will eventually shine through once more.
Meditation is a powerful tool that can help us connect with our inner selves and explore the depths of our consciousness.
By creating a space for introspection,
We can delve into our shadow self and uncover the hidden aspects of our psyche.
Through this process,
We can identify negative patterns,
Beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve us,
And work towards healing and transformation.
So allow yourself to embrace the journey of self-discovery,
And seek the place of shadow within.
In this sacred space we have created,
We can hone our shadow selves with love as we journey through this meditation.
Keep in mind these questions.
What shadows are you casting off?
What energy lies dormant within you?
As we journey into our sacred center,
Let these questions settle in the back of our minds.
In this place of stillness,
We can connect with the universe.
Please make yourself as comfortable as possible,
Sitting up or lying down,
Whatever you feel called to do now.
Allow your hands to gently rest in your lap or at your sides,
And allow your eyes to float closed.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
And release through your mouth,
And let's do that again.
Deep breath in through your nose,
Holding briefly at the top,
And exhale,
Releasing all of the air from the depths of your lungs.
Now allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm.
Bring your awareness to your body.
Are you comfortable?
Make any adjustments you may need to relax into your space more deeply.
Now gently return your awareness to your breath.
You do not need to change your breath.
Just follow its natural rhythm slowly and mindfully.
Feel the air flowing through your nostrils on the inhale,
Allowing your belly to rise,
And let it be natural on your exhale.
Continue to follow your breath.
If your attention drips,
Gently return your awareness to your breath.
Now here in this sacred space,
I ask you to seek the place of shadow within.
Seek those aspects that have been ignored,
Shut out,
Avoided.
Things like jealousy,
Anger,
And untruthfulness.
The emotions and actions that trigger shame within us are often associated with past mistakes or regrettable events that we wish we could undo.
However,
In this sacred space,
We learn to embrace and accept our darker aspects with love and compassion.
This allows us to acknowledge our flaws and mistakes without feeling ashamed or guilty.
By holding our shadow with love,
We can learn to grow and evolve into better versions of ourselves.
With your awareness on your body,
Notice any sensations,
Any tightness or constriction.
Breathe deeply into those spaces with love and light.
Allow these areas of stickiness to be released with loving-kindness.
Say aloud or to yourself,
I acknowledge and hold my shortcomings in a space of love and forgiveness.
I do not need to be perfect.
It is okay to make mistakes.
I forgive myself and mindfully learn from them.
My life is a journey of self-discovery.
If I did not make mistakes,
I could not grow as a person in experience.
This growth allows me to see myself in others when they make mistakes.
I forgive myself and others for errors of judgment.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth with a sigh,
Releasing any bits of tension you may still be clinging to.
Allow the promise of renewed light to burn through and transmute any pain or fear.
Breathe in light.
Breathe out fear.
Breathe in love.
Breathe out pain.
Allow yourself to rest here for a moment,
Allowing for the integration of your shadow self.
Deep within you is the seed of truth.
It resigns in the most sacred chambers of your being,
Waiting patiently for you to discover its hidden power.
Allow your awareness to sink deep within,
To the place of darkness,
Where the seed awaits your arrival.
It is a place of profound stillness,
Where the chaos of the external world fades away,
And you are left with the purity of your inner self.
Within this seed lies everything you have been seeking,
A treasure trove of wisdom,
Love,
And fulfillment.
But the seed has been lying dormant,
Concealed by the layers of attachment,
Fear,
And pain that have accumulated over time.
It longs to break free from its confines and reveal its brilliance to the world.
Now,
With the promise of light and rebirth on the horizon,
You find yourself in a moment of awakening.
This is a time when you can become fully aware of the hidden jewel within.
Visualize the radiant sun streaming its golden rays of light deep into the fertile ground within you,
Where the sacred seed lies.
The warmth of the sunlight bathes the seed,
Caressing it with tenderness and encouraging its growth.
As you take a deep breath in,
The seed begins to sprout,
Bursting forth with vibrant energy.
Radiant beams of light emanate from its core,
Illuminating the depths of your being and captivating all who witness its beauty.
With each passing moment,
The sprout grows taller and stronger,
Reaching the heavens with unwavering determination.
Embrace this magnificent process of growth and transformation.
Capture the seed of truth within you with self-care,
Love,
And acceptance.
Water it with your deepest desires and aspirations,
And watch as it flourishes into a magnificent tree,
Branching out in all directions and bearing the fruits of your authentic self.
Your dear soul,
This seed is yours to tend and nurture.
It holds the blueprint of your true essence.
The essence is ready to shine brightly in the world.
Embrace the unfolding of your inner journey,
And let the radiance within you illuminate the path towards your deepest fulfillment.
Sit here for a moment,
Feeling anchored in your whole being.
Gently bring your awareness back to your body.
Allow soft movements to return to your fingers and toes,
Allowing your breath to deepen,
And when you are ready,
You may open your eyes.
Take a few moments to journal what came up for you during the meditation,
Returning to the questions.
What shadows are you casting off,
And what energy lies dormant within?
You may return to these questions or meditation whenever you need to do so.
By allowing yourself this opportunity,
You give yourself the chance to fully explore and understand where you may be holding pain or discomfort.
Through this process,
You can uncover the root causes of these emotions and experiences,
And as you gain awareness,
You also cultivate the ability to release them with love and light.
This practice of self-exploration and healing is a powerful way to bring transformation into your life.
Embrace this journey with open arms and a compassionate heart,
Paving the way for greater peace,
Joy and harmony within yourself and your relationships with others.
So keep returning to these questions and meditation,
Allowing yourself to deepen your understanding,
Letting go of what no longer serves you,
And embracing the infinite potential of love and light within.
May you find comfort in the embrace of loved ones,
Peace in the stillness of nature,
And the light within you shine brightly throughout the longest night.
I wish you an enchanting and blissful winter solstice.
Thank you so much for joining me today.
I am grateful to have met you on the path.
Namaste.
