Hello and welcome to this somatic meditation for healing.
Somatic therapy,
Also referred to as somatic experiencing,
Offers a holistic approach to therapy that emphasizes the powerful connection between the mind and body.
It has played a pivotal role in my personal healing journey to the extent that I am currently undergoing training to become a certified somatic healer.
Through a combination of mindfulness,
Body awareness,
And movement techniques,
Somatic therapy encourages us to pay attention to our bodily sensations,
Engage in breathing exercises,
And explore non-verbal expressions of emotion.
This approach can help us release tension,
Regulate our emotions,
And develop a sense of safety and empowerment.
Somatic therapy is often used to treat conditions such as anxiety,
Depression,
PTSD,
And other trauma-related disorders.
It offers a unique way to process and resolve trauma by integrating the body's innate wisdom into the healing process.
By fostering a deeper connection between the mind and body,
Somatic therapy can promote self-awareness,
Emotional resilience,
And overall well-being,
Allowing us to tap into our body's innate capacity for healing and self-regulation.
Please find a quiet space.
Allow your body to settle into a restful posture,
Either sitting up or lying down.
Take a moment to be sure you are comfortable.
Allow your hands to rest in your lap or at your sides.
You may gently close your eyes,
Or keep them softly focused.
Bring your awareness to your body.
Beginning with the top of the head,
We will slowly scan through each part of the body.
Notice any sensations,
Such as warmth,
Coolness,
Tension,
Or relaxation.
Do not judge or analyze,
Simply observe.
Allow your attention to rest at the top of your head,
Forehead,
Cheeks,
Jaw,
Mouth,
Neck,
The right shoulder,
Right arm,
Right hand,
Right fingers,
The left shoulder,
Left arm,
Left hand,
And left fingers.
Allow your awareness to settle on your upper back,
Mid-back,
Low-back,
Your chest,
Abdomen,
Pelvis,
Right hip,
Right thigh,
Right hamstring,
Right knee,
Right shin,
Right calf,
Right ankle,
Right foot,
Right toes,
Left hip,
Left thigh,
Left hamstring,
Left knee,
Left shin,
Left calf,
Left ankle,
Left foot,
Left toes.
Now allow your awareness to return to your whole body,
And gently shift your focus to your breath.
Feel the natural rhythm of your breath as it enters and leaves your body.
Notice the rise and fall of your chest and abdomen.
Notice the texture and shape of your breath.
Bring awareness to the temperature of your breath as it flows in through your nostrils and back out,
And if your mind wanders,
Gently bring it back to the breath.
Allow your awareness to shift to the contact points between your support and your body.
Imagine roots extending from your body deep into the earth.
Feel a sense of connection and stability.
You are grounded,
Supported,
And rooted.
You are safe.
Notice any physical sensations.
Maybe you sense a tingling,
Warm,
Or gentle pulsation.
Allow these sensations to be present without judgment.
Now if you have noticed any areas of tension,
Consciously relax them by allowing the breath to release any stickiness.
Breathe into the areas,
And imagine releasing of any tightness or holding.
Take a moment to appreciate your body.
Thank it for carrying you through life,
For its resilience,
And for all the experiences it allows you to have.
Now gently bring your awareness back to your breath.
Take a few deep breaths,
Allowing your awareness to come back to the present moment.
You may bring small movements to your fingers and toes,
And when you are ready,
You may gently open your eyes.
Remember,
Somatic meditation is about tuning into your body and being fully present.
By practicing this meditation regularly,
You will develop a deeper awareness of your body and emotional holding,
While gently learning to relax and release the areas of stickiness,
Allowing you to live a more embodied experience.
It encourages you to embrace each moment,
Acknowledging the sensations,
Thoughts,
And feelings that arise without judgment.
Through this practice,
You can cultivate a profound understanding of your mind-body connection,
Enhancing your overall well-being and inner peace.
Thank you for joining me here today.
Enjoy the journey within.
Namaste.
