A meditation on letting go.
Hi,
I'm Karen.
I'm so glad that you're here with me today.
As we begin,
I want to invite you into a gentle reflection.
Many of us spend a great deal of our lives holding on.
Holding on to plans.
Holding on to certainty.
Holding on to the way we thought things would be.
Holding on to people.
Experiences.
And moments we wish could stay forever.
And Yet life,
By its very nature,
Is always moving.
Always changing.
Always asking us in ways both large and small.
To let go.
Today we're not here to force anything.
We are not here to rush acceptance.
We're not here to convince ourselves that change is easy.
Instead,
We're simply creating a space to soften.
A space to loosen our grip.
A space to rest for a little while.
In the truth of this moment.
And so if it feels comfortable.
You might allow your eyes to close.
And if not,
Just soften your gaze.
And bring awareness to your breath.
Notice the gentle rhythm of breathing.
The breath arrives.
And breath leaves.
Nothing to hold.
Nothing to force.
Just from movement.
Natural movement.
Breathing in.
.
.
And breathing out.
Allow yourself to feel the support beneath you.
The Chair.
The floor.
The Earth itself holding you.
For these next few moments,
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing you need to accomplish.
You're allowed to simply rest.
As you continue breathing.
Imagine holding a handful of sand.
If you clench your fist tightly.
The sand begins to slip through your fingers.
And the heart you hold.
The more difficult it becomes.
When your hand softens.
When your grip relaxes.
The sand can rest.
Gently.
In your poem.
Perhaps there's wisdom in that.
Sometimes letting go is not releasing something all at once.
Sometimes it's simply loosening the tension around it.
Allowing life to be what it is.
You may notice that there is something in your life.
That you've been carrying.
Of fear.
A disappointment.
A question without an answer.
A hope that has become.
Heavy.
A future you can't quite control.
Without needing to change.
Anything.
Simply acknowledge what you're carrying.
Gently.
With kindness.
As though you were meeting a dear friend.
Imagine.
Placing that burden down beside you.
Not forever.
And not because it no longer matters.
But because.
For this moment.
You deserve a rest.
I'm carrying it.
You deserve a rest from carrying it.
Notice what it feels like to set it down.
Even briefly.
To give your shoulders permission to soften.
To unclench your jaw.
To allow your heart a little more space.
A little more space.
Life asks much of us.
And yet There comes a time when wisdom is found.
Not in holding tighter.
But in trusting more deeply.
Trusting that we don't need to control.
Every outcome.
Trusting that we can meet each moment.
As it arrives.
Trusting that we are capable.
Of living within uncertainty.
One breath at a time.
Bring your awareness now to the changing nature of life.
2.
The Seasons that come and go.
Mornings that become evening.
Springs that become autumn.
People enter our lives.
And people leave our lives.
Our bodies change,
Our circumstances change.
Nothing remains,
Exactly as it was.
And yet somehow life continues to unfold.
Not because we control it,
Far from it.
But because change itself is part of life's rhythm.
See if you can rest within that rhythm for a moment.
Not resisting.
Not chasing.
Simply allowing.
Allowing this breath to be exactly as it is.
Allowing this moment to be exactly as it is.
Allowing yourself.
Be exactly as you are.
Perhaps.
You might silently repeat these words to yourself.
I don't need to hold everything.
I don't.
Need,
To know everything.
I don't need to control what comes next.
For now.
I can simply Be here.
For now.
I can soften for now.
I can rest.
Notice what happens inside.
When you offer yourself that permission.
Not permission to give up.
But permission to stop struggling for a moment.
Permission to trust life just enough.
To take one more easy breath.
And then another.
And then another.
As we begin to close.
If it feels comfortable.
Place a hand gently over your heart.
Can you feel the warmth of your hand?
Feel the quiet presence of your own compassion.
And remind yourself.
I am learning to let go.
Not all at once.
Not perfectly.
But gently.
Moment.
By moment.
Breath.
5 breaths.
Take a slow,
Nourishing breath in.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Allowing yourself to feel.
Supported.
Allowing yourself to feel held.
Allowing yourself to trust this moment.
And when you're ready.
Gently bring your awareness back.
To the room.
Knowing that you can return to this practice whenever life asks you to loosen your grip.
And open your heart.
Thank you for sharing this time with me.
May you move through the rest of your day.
With gentleness.
Courage and peace.
So much love
