SO. You had a bad day today. That's rough. Some days are like that. And maybe you don't want to think about it anymore, but it seems to be stuck on you like velcro to a woolen sweater. Maybe this will help you to let go of this rotten-stinky-i-never-want-to-do-that-day-again day! I hope so. You don't need to carry all that hurt inside your heart. Let's sit down for a few minutes and just unpack this hurt together. We all have bad days. And you're not alone in that. Let's let it go.

Hi,

My name is Karen.

So,

You had a bad day.

Some days are like that.

You wake up in the morning and nothing turns out the way you expected or hoped.

Or maybe you woke up and you knew that the day was going to be really rough and the day didn't disappoint you on that point.

Not at all.

Then you might be saying to yourself,

All I want to do is to get home.

I just want to get home and into my bed,

Turn off the lights and pull the blanket up and over my head.

And that this has been a really rotten day.

And all you want to do is forget about this day.

And that's exactly what you do need to do.

Is to let the events of the day just fall away from you.

Let this rotten,

Stinky,

Awful day.

You try to just let it go.

But it doesn't go.

Maybe it's time that you offer some compassion to yourself.

And so if that means climbing into your bed and screaming out loud or having a gut-wrenching cry into your pillow until your throat hurts,

Until your eyes are dry.

And then if when the tears dry,

You find that there's something still there,

This is exactly what we need to let go of.

This negative energy.

Find a place for you that's comfortable.

A place where you can be alone.

Where it's quiet.

And whether you're seated or laying down,

Allow your eyes to close gently.

We'll begin with taking three deep breaths in and then exhaling slowly through the mouth with a gentle pursing of the lips.

Breathing in deeply.

Exhaling slowly.

And again,

Breathing in.

Exhale slowly.

Breathe in.

Last one.

And let the breath all leave the body.

You're all right.

And it may seem as though the thing that you want to let go of won't let go of you.

And as much as I would like to say that there will never be days again like this,

There will be.

So it's really important that you learn to let it go.

Some days are just like that.

They become the rotten stinky,

I never want to do that again day.

And it may seem as though there are several of those days strung together.

It may seem as though they're never ending.

And that thought pulls at the strings of hope.

And it drains the hope away.

Breathe in again deeply.

Exhale.

In this moment,

In this breath,

You're all right.

Whatever happened today,

Good,

Bad,

Neutral.

In this moment,

You're all right.

Give permission to all the pain of this day to surrender and let it go.

But you are the only one who can do this.

And know that every time that you revisit that moment in the day,

The hurt is going to come right back.

And the hurt will grow each time that you return to that space.

Give yourself permission to be free of this hurt.

Clench one hand into the tightest fist that you can,

Into a ball.

This is your day.

And it was exhausting.

There were times when you wanted to just throw your hands up,

Give up and leave.

Be done with it.

But that's not what you chose to do.

You chose to be an active part of finding a solution.

Solutions don't always come when we demand them.

Nor are we solely responsible for finding the solution.

Not only do we work with others to find solutions,

The universe provides information in its own time.

And the information it provides is changing rapidly.

In a week's time,

In a month's time,

Things may have changed so much.

Not only will you not remember this time,

But the environment itself is unrecognizable from what you once knew.

Know that if you could have found a solution,

You would have done it.

But it wasn't available.

Aren't you tired of grasping tightly clinging to something that isn't yet there?

Look at your hand clenching tightly.

Knuckles,

Tendons,

Muscle,

Bone.

You look at it and you see that you have wrapped yourself tightly around your own pain.

But there is no power in that fist.

And the hand that wraps around nothing is yours.

What happened in the day is not clinging to you.

You are clinging to it.

Now begin to soften your fingers.

Relax the muscles of your hand.

Feel the new sensation in each finger in the palm of your hand.

Vibrant and alive as new oxygen is being sent into your fingers and thumb into the hand.

New energy,

New information.

Just as new thoughts and solutions will become known to you tomorrow.

But if you clench too tightly,

Hold to the notion that there is only one solution in the belief that you hold it in your fist or that you are the only player in finding the solution,

You're going to end up looking down and finding yourself clenching and holding nothing again.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

Tomorrow will still hold challenges.

Everything is shifting and changing and all that we can do is our best.

And having done our best,

We can sleep the sleep of the just.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

And to those challenges that have no solutions as yet,

Don't hold them too tightly.

Make space.

Perhaps the universe will work its magic before the dawn.

And what was a challenge will no longer exist.

Sometimes the universe seems to have a wonderful sense of humour.

When it sees that we take ourselves too seriously,

It offers us an opportunity to see the humour in its vast and infinite wisdom.

Open your eyes to all the beauty that is around you.

That even in the blackest sky at night,

Stars still sparkle bright.

And after each night comes a new dawn.

And while we cannot have a do over,

With each breath,

With each new day is the opportunity to begin again.

You are alright.

And you will never have to do this day again.

Let it go.

Let it go.

Unclench your fist,

Your heart and mind.

All that matters will happen in this breath.

Breathe in deeply.

Exhale completely.

And see that you are alright.

May you be well.

May you be safe from internal and external harm.

And may you know that you are loved and worthy of that love.

Until we sit again,

Namaste.

I messed up today. It wasn’t intentional, but I made a error at my job I should not make and it may cost me. I’m scared for me, my reputation, and for my family. But this small and elegant meditation really did help me. I know work/jobs are not everything. I know that life is like this and that I’m Human. But this helped remind me of that and helped guide me through this night. Tomorrow may hurt and I’ll listen to this again. Thank you for this.
