Hi.
My name is Karen.
I've noticed of late that it can be hard to fall asleep.
I suppose my mind is turning some things over,
Things I might not even really truly understand.
And I yearn for a time when I was young,
When I recall my mother would put her hand on my forehead.
Her hand always felt cool to me.
And it would rest on my forehead and she would gently pat my forehead and say,
It's all right.
And those words alone were enough to calm me.
It's all right.
And now as I'm an adult,
I think that I pine for that same reassurance.
The outward voice just reminding me that it's okay.
So I thought that perhaps this might be something that would be helpful for you,
Dear listener.
If you'd like to arrange yourself in your bed to be as comfortable as you possibly can.
Setting yourself up with pillows and blankets.
Eyes might begin by being open,
But let the focus of your gaze be softened.
So that in the darkness of your room,
You're not searching for details.
This is a time to let the details of the day melt away,
To vanish.
Give yourself a beautiful,
Deep breath in.
Breathing in as deeply as you can.
And then exhale slowly out through your open mouth.
Let it go.
And maybe do that one or two more times.
Breathing in deeply.
And exhaling completely.
And once more for good measure.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
And now let your breath find its own natural rhythm.
Its own cadence.
And with a light resting awareness on your breath coming and going.
Whatever happened today is done.
And there's nothing that can change that.
And so you let it go.
Perhaps tomorrow when you wake,
The solution that you've been searching for will be at your fingertips.
And so for tonight,
We let it go.
The worries that you have for tomorrow,
These are imagined worries.
You have a tendency to think the worst will happen.
But perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised.
And so set aside those worries of tomorrow.
Let go any regrets of today.
And perhaps allow your eyes to become heavy now.
And know in your heart that you did everything that you possibly could.
And that there was nothing else that could be offered to change or alter today's events,
Not on wit or beat.
And that it's okay.
That you alone are not the one to find the solution.
That there are things in play of which you know nothing about.
The universe has a funny way of affecting changes that can sometimes lessen discomfort.
Changing an outcome by simply giving us time to change our perspective.
What you think now is insurmountable will become manageable.
And so give away this idea that a solution must be found tonight.
Tomorrow will be a new day.
And you will meet that day with bright eyes and willing eyes.
And a willing heart.
And again,
You will do your best.
And so for now,
Let the bed hold you.
Let the covers wrap themselves around you,
Embracing you.
Let any thoughts that trouble you,
Let them melt away.
As the pillow holds your head,
Let pleasant dreams fill you with wonder and awe,
With beauty and joy.
It's okay.
Whatever has frightened you,
Whatever has made you sad or angry,
Let it go.
Let it go.
You deserve this rest.
Notice the heaviness of your arms and legs,
The slowing of your breath.
It's okay.
It's okay.
It's right that you sleep now.
Let it go.
Let the day go.
Listen to the sounds of your breath drawing in and moving out.
It sounds like an ocean wave,
Doesn't it?
The ocean is so big,
So vast.
And the troubles you think that you hold are tiny when compared to the ocean.
In a week's time,
You won't even recall them.
Let your body fall back,
Fall back into that deep blue ocean.
Let it rest there,
Following the rise and fall of your breath,
Just as you would watch a slow rolling wave travel across the ocean.
The beautiful moon silvery and mysterious,
Myriad stars sparkling reflected in the ocean's surface.
You're safe now.
It's okay.
Allow your eyes to fall.
Allow your breath to become the wind itself and you,
Your body,
The ocean.
Let dreams paint the backs of your eyelids with beautiful colors and sounds,
Tastes and smells.
Let your sleep take you to a place where only you will know of such calm,
Tranquility and ease.
It's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Let go.
