Did you know there's something very special about kids and meditation?
Our brains have special waves that say what channel it's on.
A channel for sleeping,
A channel for feeling really calm,
A channel for when we are paying extra close attention,
And so much more.
There is a special channel for meditation.
And when you're a kid,
You can change channels a lot easier than adults can.
A kid brain is flexible and new.
It doesn't have as many things to keep you from changing the channel.
So give yourself a pat on the back.
This is going to be fun and easy.
Let's get our brain ready to find the meditation channel.
Let's start by getting really comfy.
You can sit,
Lie down,
Cross your legs,
Or lean against something nice and soft.
If you have an itch,
Feel chilly,
Or if you have a fold in your clothes that's funny,
Go ahead and fix it so you can have all the things that would try and change your channel all turned off.
Now,
The biggest thing that will try and change your channel is all the things that you can see.
So let's close our eyes.
With your eyes closed,
Do you notice that you can hear a little better?
Isn't that neat?
Keep your eyes closed.
I'm going to give you some flowers.
Are you ready?
Hold your hands out.
Picture a really colorful bunch of flowers.
I just put them in your hands.
What color are they?
Do you see red?
Blue?
Are they all kinds of colors?
Great.
Now we're going to see what they smell like.
Are you ready?
We're going to take a nice deep,
Big breath in through our nose and smell these pretty flowers.
Take a deep breath in.
So big,
As much air as you can get.
So good.
Now let it go.
When you breathe out,
You can let the air go back through your nose or out of your mouth.
Let's do that again.
Take a nice big breath in through your nose like you are trying to smell every flower you're holding.
So good.
And release.
One more time.
Breathe in.
And release.
You did such a good job.
You can put your hands back down wherever is comfy and open your eyes again.
Guess what?
You changed your channel.
Yep.
You made pictures in your mind.
You took deep breaths and you calmed your body.
Let's do one more thing to say thank you to our brain and give ourselves a high five.
Reach both of your hands high in the air.
Big stretch.
Very good.
Now clap your hands together and give yourself a high five.
You did it.
