Welcome to Morning Metta.
So metta meditation is an ancient Buddhist meditation practice that is used to create and cultivate feelings of love and kindness.
So this is a practice that I love to start my day with before I even get out of bed.
And I also return to it if I have moments of kind of missing someone,
Whether they are someone here or someone that's passed on,
Or also if there's just some feelings of sadness come in and I want to send love and also fill myself with some as well.
The Sharon Salzberg said,
You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself,
And that person is not to be found anywhere.
You yourself,
As much as anybody in the entire universe,
Deserve your love and affection.
Okay,
Let's go into meditation.
As always,
Take a few long,
Slow,
And deep breaths.
Connecting to your body.
Gently connecting to this moment,
Allowing yourself to just be here now.
Gently close your eyes and see yourself in your mind,
Almost as if you're outside looking in.
Take a few moments to connect to your essence.
Feel your energy.
And as you do,
Direct these words to yourself.
And as you say them,
Say them in a way that is coming from a place of love and kindness within your heart.
So take a nice,
Sweet breath and say to yourself,
May you be safe.
May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you be loved.
And now shift your awareness to another person.
Someone that you care deeply about.
Imagine that they are sitting in front of you or standing in front of you in your meditation.
And as you see them in your mind,
Connect to their energy,
Connect to their essence,
And as you do,
Direct these words to them.
May you be safe.
May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you be loved.
And now hold the entire world,
The universe in your mind,
Every creature,
Animal,
Element,
And soul.
And as you see it all in your mind in front of you,
Connect to its essence.
And as you do,
Direct these words to it all.
May you be safe.
May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you be loved.
If you can,
Place your hands over your heart.
And one more time,
Say to yourself,
May you be safe.
May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you be loved.
Take a few more long,
Slow,
And deep breaths.
With each breath coming more into this moment,
Maybe take a moment to smile for yourself,
For the love and the kindness you have created for you,
For another,
And for the entire universe.
Have a beautiful day.
