Hello sweet friend,
It's Jordana here and this meditation is for you if you had some bad dreams and you're feeling off right now.
First,
I just want to normalize bad dreams or nightmares.
It's absolutely normal to feel a residue of fear,
Sadness,
Or confusion.
Even if you can't remember what the dream was.
I want you to know that right here and now.
You're safe.
And whatever happened in that dream.
It's over.
And second,
I want to tell you something that changed the way that I see nightmares forever.
A few years ago,
I spent a month studying at Kopan Monastery in Nepal.
Up in the hills above Kathmandu,
Learning from monks and nuns.
And my teacher there told me something that I've carried with me ever since.
I had some really intense nightmares there.
She said that nightmares are the subconscious mind's way of purging past karma.
So they are the psyche doing its deepest cleaning.
And when you wake up from a disturbed dream.
You've been cleared.
So maybe you don't believe in past lives,
Maybe you do.
Either way,
Science actually agrees with my teacher.
During REM sleep.
When you're dreaming.
The emotional processing centers of your brain fire at the same level as when you're fully awake.
So your rational mind steps back and something deeper takes over.
There are researchers at Harvard who now describe nightmares as a form of overnight therapy.
It's a safe container for the mind to revisit,
To process,
And to release what it hasn't yet made peace with.
So whatever came to you last night.
.
.
It's not a sign that anything is wrong with you.
It's your system working.
Processing.
And purging.
So now,
We'll fully release it.
If you're not already in a comfortable meditation position.
Adjust yourself.
Sitting up tall or lying down.
Your eyes can be closed.
Or soften your gaze.
Take one long,
Slow breath through your nose.
And exhale out through your mouth.
And again,
Breathe in long and full through the nose.
And as you exhale,
Let it be audible.
Let it be a release.
Last one like this.
Breathing in.
And as you breathe out,
Letting go a little bit more of the dream world.
Arriving in this moment.
And bringing attention to your body.
Noticing any places where you're holding tension Maybe it's in your jaw.
Your shoulders or your hips.
Maybe your heart feels tight.
You don't need to fix any of it right now.
Just notice it with kindness.
Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
Maybe you can feel the warmth.
Or the connection of your own hands on your body.
And feel the rise and fall of your breath beneath your hands.
And then saying to yourself either out loud or silently in your mind,
I am here.
I am present.
I am safe.
I am here.
I am present.
I am safe.
You can release your hands into your lap.
And I want you to imagine the energy of that dream.
As a color or texture.
Maybe you imagine it like a smoke or a fog.
Something that was part of your being,
Your energy,
Maybe even in your body.
But it was never meant to stay.
I'd like you to imagine that with every breath out,
The energy of the dream,
Whatever texture or color or feeling it's left in your body.
And begins to loosen.
And as you breathe in,
It gathers a bit.
And as you breathe out,
It lifts,
It leaves.
Each time you breathe in,
There is less and less of it left.
And as you breathe out,
Imagining more and more.
The letting go,
The releasing.
Releasing it from your belly.
Your hips.
You're not.
Your shoulders.
As you continue to release,
Knowing that it has served its purpose.
It has done its work.
And you're not meant to carry it into your day.
And in its tracks it leaves space behind.
Space that has been cleared.
Karma that has been purged.
Therapy that has healed in ways that your mind can't even cognize right now.
And here we can plant something new.
You get to choose what grows in the space.
That has freed up now.
Take a long breath in.
And as you exhale,
Imagine a light beginning to gather at the center of your chest.
It's warm.
It's golden.
It's like the first light of morning coming through the window.
Breathing in.
.
.
And with each breath letting it grow a little brighter.
A little warmer.
Like the sun rising,
Revealing more of itself through the window.
This light reveals more of itself within you.
Letting it spread into your shoulders.
Down your arms to your hands.
Rising up to your throat.
Softening your jaw.
Your face.
The space behind your eyes.
And moving all the way down through your belly.
Your hips.
Your legs.
All the way to the soles of your feet.
You are filled with your own morning light.
Anchored in this new day.
This new opportunity.
Cleansed.
Present.
Deserving.
And I want you to set an intention.
Just one word or one feeling.
Something you want to carry with you.
From this moment forward.
Something that will serve your day today.
Maybe it's ease.
Maybe it's courage.
Maybe it's joy.
Let whatever it is arrive.
And take a moment to hold that word.
In the space of your heart.
The epicenter of your good morning light.
Whenever you're ready.
Can gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
Let movement return to your body.
You can start to open your eyes slowly,
Letting the light in gently.
Okay,
You've made it.
And whatever came in the night.
That's gone.
You're right here,
Right now.
Beginning again.
I hope you have a great day ahead.
And thank you for being here.
