Lectio Divina is a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading, meditation and contemplation. We repeat a verse mantra-like, allowing it to work through us. The words point us to an experience of union which cannot be uttered or conceptualized. The aim of the practice is to abide in a "peace that surpasses understanding."

Lectio Divina is a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading,

Meditation,

Contemplation,

And prayer.

The Word of God is living and active,

Sharper than any double-edged sword.

It pierces even to dividing soul and spirit.

The practice of Lectio Divina consists of these steps,

A reading of the Word,

Meditation on the Word,

Prayer,

And contemplation.

This practice you will hear a biblical verse every three minutes.

Repeat the verse to yourself during that interval.

Meditate on it.

Saturate your mind with it.

Let it course through you.

We will end this practice with prayer.

Begin by assuming a dignified posture.

It is written,

You are the temple of God,

The Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

Imagine yourself as a temple,

As the poet Basava wrote,

The legs are pillars,

The body a shrine,

The head a cupola of gold.

Feel the Holy Spirit of God within you,

Not in the abstract,

But as that which sustains the very temple,

Which lights it,

Which keeps it warm,

Not an atom of which you made,

Not a cell of which you had a hand in designing.

We are God's workmanship.

The temple of God is holy,

Which temple ye are.

First verse.

Ye are the temple of God,

The Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

The temple of God is holy,

Which temple ye are.

Ye are the temple of God,

The Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

The Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

The temple of God is holy,

Which temple ye are.

The temple of God dwelleth in you.

The temple of God dwelleth in you.

The temple of God dwelleth in you.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

That all the earth keep silence before him.

Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence,

So that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Whoever enters God's rest also rests from his own work.

Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest.

Return unto thy rest,

O my soul.

Return unto thy rest,

O my soul.

Return unto thy rest,

O my soul.

Return unto thy rest,

O my soul.

Return unto thy rest,

O my soul.

Return unto thy rest,

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

The eternal God is a dwelling place.

Be still.

Be still.

Be still.

Be still.

Be still.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

The Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous runs into it and is safe.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him.

Fret not thyself.

Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

Now we offer up these prayers like incense in a temple.

Let my prayer be counted as incense before you.

Cause me to hear thy loving-kindness in the morning,

For in thee do I trust.

Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk.

I lift my soul unto thee.

O give thanks unto the Lord,

For he is good.

His mercy endureth forever.

Really well done. Thank you for the pace and the excellent journey that your scripture choices took us on. I’d love more like this. It is unique on the Timer, even among Christian offerings. God bless you for it!
