Make yourself comfortable now,

Knowing that you are safe and secure.

Close your eyes now and take your attention to the breath.

Take in a nice,

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath and hold it for the mental count of three.

Then let it out slowly with a sigh.

Relax your body now.

Ensure that your feet are both flat on the floor.

Become aware of the surface beneath you and feel your feet becoming heavy,

Heavy and comfortable and so relaxed.

And let go now.

Allow your hands to rest gently on your lap.

Let them feel heavy.

Let them relax and let go.

And take another long,

Slow,

Deep breath.

Hold it for three and let it go with a sigh.

Notice how calmness and relaxation is beginning to flow down your body now,

From the top of your head all the way down to the tips of your toes.

Every nerve,

Every cell,

Every fibre,

Every consciousness of your body is relaxing nicely now.

Relaxing and letting go of tension.

Letting go.

Let go now.

And take one more long,

Slow,

Deep breath.

Hold it for three and let it go with a sigh.

Perfect.

Notice now how heavy your hands are becoming.

So heavy,

So comfortable and so relaxed.

Let go now.

And as you notice the heaviness there in your hands,

Feel it spreading all the way over your body and let your eyes feel heavy as well.

Heavy and comfortable and so relaxed.

Let go of those tiny muscles around your eyes and feel them become loose and limp.

And imagine little weights pulling down on your lashes,

Allowing your eyes to remain closed.

So that you can look up onto the screen of the forehead and imagine,

Picture or perceive the word relax.

Or a shape or a colour or a symbol that represents the word relax.

And take that symbol of relaxation back,

Back,

Back until it relaxes both the left and the right lobes of the brain.

And allow that relaxing feeling to flow all the way through your body and let go completely now.

Nothing bothers you.

Nothing disturbs you.

All the sounds you hear and all the sounds you don't hear.

Focus your attention on my voice and my voice only.

And every time you hear the word deeper,

You will go 10 times deeper into blissful relaxation.

Go deep inside yourself now and imagine a beautiful stairway with coloured lights.

Green as an emerald,

Blue as a sapphire,

Red as ruby,

Sparkling and shimmering down the stairs.

Taking you down,

Down,

Down to a wonderful place,

A magical and mystical place deep within yourself.

And go down,

Down,

Down now,

Deeper,

Deeper,

Deeper relaxed.

And let go completely now.

Feel yourself descending the stairs.

Here and there it is dark and in other places a colour will flash through your mind.

Become a witness as you go down.

Watch yourself going deeper down.

Feel yourself going deeper down.

But know that your mind is still here listening to and hearing whatever is said.

And very soon as you go deeper,

You will achieve the perfect state of relaxation.

That's it.

Letting go of all distractions for any noise,

Any sound,

Any movement you hear or simply sense takes you deeper and deeper within yourself.

Perfect.

Right down now to the deepest level of your own mind.

Imagine now you are walking beside a wide peaceful river.

The sun is shining and there are no clouds in the beautiful blue sky.

See yourself enjoying the heady perfume of the wildflowers and the sounds of bird life.

It really is a perfect summer day.

The perfect temperature for a walk.

You smile and wave at people passing by on the river in old fashioned punt boats,

Creating a picture postcard scene.

And ahead of you now is a jetty with a punt waiting at the end.

The punter waves to you and you follow him down the jetty and easily enter the boat.

The punt glides slowly down the river as you relax and enjoy the scenery and the dappled effect of the sun coming through the foliage overhanging the water.

Very soon you arrive at a fork in the river and the punter leaves the wide river and takes you down a narrow tributary.

It feels very peaceful.

Long grass grows on both banks swaying in the gentle breeze.

Before long the punter pulls into another jetty.

You leave the punt and walk along the jetty and up a white shell path that leads to a large log cabin.

You knock at the door and it quickly swings open to reveal a woman with long grey hair dressed in a flowing blue robe.

She indicates for you to follow her and leads you to a room with floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with books.

She asks you to find a book on the shelves,

A special book called The Real You.

You easily find the book and settle into a big comfortable armchair.

The old woman tells you to read the book and you will know and understand who you truly are.

She tells you that you already know who you are but you need to read this book to validate it to yourself on all levels of your mind.

It's a short book with large print.

Take some time now to read the book and appreciate your inner beauty.

The old woman smiles as you finish the book and put it on the table.

She asks you if you learned anything about yourself.

Take a moment now to respond to her.

She reassures you that every time you begin to doubt yourself or begin to believe someone else's distorted image of you,

All you need to do is find the book in the library of your mind and remind yourself of who you truly are.

There is no need to visit her again as The Real You lives deep within your own mind and you know how to access it.

Whenever you need the book in future,

Take three deep breaths and the book will appear in your mind's eye with all the information you need about who you truly are.

You thank the old woman and make your way back down the white shell path to the jetty.

You easily step into the punt,

Floating down the narrow tributary to the wide river and back to the jetty.

Walking back beside the river,

You know now with great certainty that The Real You is a good and worthwhile person who does not have to justify their existence to anyone.

You are good enough as you are.

You always have been good enough and you always will be.

Every day in every way,

Your life gets better and better.

And now it's time to return to the here and now.

I will count you up from one to five and on five you will open your eyes,

Feeling totally refreshed and vibrantly alive.

One,

Take in a nice big breath.

Two,

Becoming aware of the room.

Three,

Feeling the energy running through your body.

Four,

Moving your fingers and toes.

And five,

Eyes open,

Feeling totally refreshed and vibrantly alive.
