Have you ever made a grand discovery whilst lucid dreaming?
Have you ever gone to sleep and proceeded to live an entirely different life?
Have you ever woken up with new knowledge,
New wisdom,
Something gleaned from the lucid dream that you then applied to your waking life?
Today we'll explore this concept.
So get comfortable,
Turn off your lights,
Draw your curtains,
Slide under the sheets,
And my voice returns shortly.
We'll go on a little adventure together.
Your eyes open and you find yourself sitting in an underwater habitat,
Gazing through one of the portholes,
Many,
Many miles beneath the sea's surface.
You're not immediately aware that you're dreaming.
In fact,
As you awaken to this new world,
A huge wave of memories accompany the awakening,
Convincing,
Fleshed-out memories.
You believe that this new world is your own,
This different time,
This wholly unique personality.
It's something you recognize.
You work here,
In this underwater habitat,
Navigating the vast depths of a giant water world.
With the help of a small crew,
You were sent here by your home planet decades ago,
Searching for clues of your species' origins.
And eagerly you came,
As scientists,
As pioneers,
Plumbing the watery depths,
On a hunt for your ancient ancestors.
You greet your crew in the mess,
Like family at this point.
You nod,
Smile,
And sit down to brief them on the day's plans.
This is the big one,
The day you've all been waiting for.
You think you've finally found them,
Your ancient cousins,
The source of your creation,
A mere mile beyond the huge rock wall.
And so,
Overwhelmed that this could be the culmination of literal decades of hard work,
You share your thoughts and feelings with your crew,
And they share their thoughts and feelings back,
Emotional and excited.
Then you lay out the plan.
It's around this time that you begin to suspect that something's off.
You feel so immersed in this narrative,
This character,
Your crew,
And the grand discovery you're all about to make.
Yet,
Simultaneously,
You sense a strangeness.
On the one hand,
You know these people,
You recognize the ship,
You're familiar with the mission.
But on the other hand,
You feel a disconnect.
Something just doesn't quite add up.
What is this?
You wonder.
Who am I,
Really?
Where am I?
And who are these people?
Brushing aside your questions,
You begin to gear up.
For the journey outside of the station and beyond the wall,
There's a fissure in the rock that you'll be able to traverse.
A large opening,
But it's not quite big enough for the ship.
So,
For now,
You'll have to abandon it.
You'll have to swim out into the ocean's depths,
Through the fissure in the rocks,
And out the other side.
For some,
The thought of this would be scary.
But to you,
A hardened veteran of the ocean depths,
You feel nothing but excitement.
You and your team are now in your suits and ready to go.
You look around and take in their faces one last time before venturing out.
They appear a bit different somehow.
Jane in particular looks.
.
.
Unusual.
In fact,
Is her name really Jane?
No,
You're doubting even that.
Perhaps it's Janet?
No,
No,
Joanne.
You shouldn't be confused like this,
You think.
You shouldn't be questioning such fundamental things about your team.
You check your oxygen meters.
Fine.
You check the pressure gauges on the ship.
Also fine.
What's going on?
What could all this mean?
And then,
As you look over Jane's face once more and watch it literally morph in front of you,
From female to male and back again,
It dawns on you what might actually be going on.
Maybe you're dreaming,
You think.
Maybe this whole thing has been a dream.
And with that,
You raise your hand,
Count six fingers,
And confirm your suspicions.
You are indeed dreaming.
Now,
Lucid,
You mull over your options.
You can either depart this scene and create your own adventure,
Or continue on with the current one.
It doesn't take you long to make your decision.
You've come this far,
You figure,
You might as well see what lurks beyond the rock wall.
Your curiosity has been piqued.
And so,
After grounding yourself and modulating your emotions,
The dock's metal door slides open with a clunk and a hiss,
And you swim out,
Your team following behind.
As you approach the rock wall,
The vastness of it hits you,
And you feel humbled.
Eyes on the wall.
You say through comms,
Your voice quivering slightly.
Eyes on,
Says Jane,
Her voice loud and clear through your earpiece.
Eyes on,
Echoes another.
You approach the fissure,
The light from your helmet shining through.
Are we ready?
You follow up.
Ready.
The crew's voices say back in perfect unison.
And so,
You begin your journey through.
The space in front of you begins as a fissure,
But the further in you swim,
The more it opens up,
Eventually becoming a huge chasm.
And then,
A bright.
.
.
You check your radar and confirm that what you've been searching for is indeed just up ahead.
In fact,
If you're reading the scanner correctly,
It's mere feet away,
Yet you don't see anything.
You don't see anything but the water.
Your eyes continue to look out,
Sweeping from left to right,
Up and down.
Your equipment is definitely picking.
.
.
Something up.
Remember your dreaming.
You say out loud to yourself,
The plot nearly sucking you back in to non-lucidity.
You look down at your hands and rub them together to ground yourself again.
Then,
As you look back up,
Your eyes finally acclimate to the surroundings,
And you see them,
Your ancient cousins.
Such beautiful creatures,
You think.
Blue spheres around their heads,
Long iridescent tendrils flowing down.
They pulse and they float serenely,
Together as one,
As one,
Separate yet somehow united.
This is where you came from,
You realize.
Back in the ancient times,
Before the spread,
Before the separation.
This is who you used to be.
And so,
You float with them,
Eyeing up their form,
And they acknowledge your presence with a soft pulse of their skin,
The iridescent glow lighting up the darkness.
Hello,
They communicate,
Without actually saying a thing.
We're glad you found us.
Originally,
The plan was to obtain a sample of the creatures and bring it back to the ship,
To extract their DNA and return with evidence of your discovery.
But now,
Floating here with them,
Plans fall away.
None of it seems to matter anymore.
All that matters instead is your presence,
To be here with them,
Bathe in the remembrance of the ancient times,
Of your underwater beginnings.
Life here is simple.
And so,
You decide to stay.
If you listened to this lucid dreaming story just for fun,
I hope you enjoyed it.
And if you listened for induction purposes,
Then I hope this parting message now,
Finds you relaxed and drifting.
Your lucid dreaming seeds have been sown,
Your mind has been primed,
And you are ready for sleep.
And so,
With that,
I draw this session to a close.
Remember,
You are a lucid dreamer.
Happy dreaming.
