Ultradian Breathing Meditation For Mid- Day Refresher
by Fred Wood
From the moment we take our first breath, our days and nights are inescapably tied to the circadian rhythms of the earth. For example, within 15 minutes of being in darkness, our bodies naturally produce melatonin to help us sleep, and our cortisol levels spike in the dawning light of day to help us wake. What is less well known is that during this 24 hour circadian cycle, we also experience ultradian rhythms or cycles about every 90 to 120 minutes. When we sleep, we experience a sequence of rapid eye movements or’ REM sleep’ about every 90 minutes, and in the day our energy follows these peaks and troughs in the same 90 min patterns. This meditation is designed to be used during the day in any trough or down period when we otherwise turn to coffee or a snack to boost our waning energy. Try Ultradian Breathing Meditation when your energy is low.
