Upon the request of a student who was recently detected with stage 4 cancer, Jay created this series for anyone dealing with terminal illness or chronic pain. Pain is inevitable in life. Suffering is optional. In the course of 7 days, Jay will lead you through a series of guided imagery that will decouple the pain from suffering. Throughout this process, it is hoped that you will gain some relief, and find that these practices assist with healing the body.

Pain is inevitable in life.

Suffering is optional.

My name is J Chodhagam and I am a meditation teacher based in San Francisco.

Over the next seven days I will lead you through a series of guided imagery which will decouple the pain from the suffering.

In the process I hope it will give you some relief and assist in healing your body.

Day 1 I am not in pain,

My body may be.

If you are experiencing pain right now,

Ask yourself,

Where is the source of the pain?

If it is coming from your body,

Then the body is in pain.

This is my body,

But I am not the body.

I the observer,

The one who is breathing,

Seeing and experiencing am separate from the body.

If I don't know the difference,

I think I am in pain.

It is in this misidentification that I suffer.

The truth is the natural state of my being is peaceful.

For the next few moments I want you to feel that peace innate to the self.

I want you to spread that peace in your body.

Imagine the peace energy to be a softly glowing light.

Imagine this light is in your forehead.

Let that light shine throughout the body.

Starting with the brain.

Simply working your way downwards,

Through the neck,

The chest,

The abdomen,

Hips and down to the feet.

Your entire body is filled with light.

Notice how you feel right now.

This light inside your body heals.

The root word for meditation and medication is the same,

Which is the Latin word medirii,

Which means to heal.

Thank you.

I hope you will join me tomorrow in affirming your true identity.

Thank you! I have been dealing with this for so many years and you so concisely and clearly explained the reasoning behind my main daytime coping mechanism! I think I have finally realised how to stop getting distressed by my body's pain at night! Reminder that I am not just my body and my body being in pain does not mean I have to be. Thank you Sat nam

I have a chronic illness and suffer from multiple painful experiences daily for a more than 15 years. Meditation with imaginary light inside and mental decision to separate body from Me β€” is helped a lot. Thank you for sharing those precious and important wisdom with the world. You’re not the one who’s make that first spark but you’re sharing the light for sure. Thank you again. Peace.
