You can rest now.
Not later.
Not once you've figured everything out.
Not once your mind finally goes quiet.
Exactly as you are.
I know that might feel impossible if your mind is still running if there are thoughts circling,
Worries that feel unfinished,
A low hum of anxiety.
That followed you to bed.
That's okay.
We're not going to wait for any of that to stop.
Before we begin.
We're going to rest in the middle of it.
And let the rest itself do the work.
Start with your breath.
And this time we're going to use a specific ratio that directly calms your nervous system You're going to breathe in for a count of four,
Hold for four,
And exhale for six.
Do it with me two,
Three,
Four.
For.
Five,
Six,
One more in.
2,
3,
4,
Hold,
2,
3,
4,
Out.
Too.
3 four,
Five,
Six,
Good.
Now release the counting,
Let your breath find its own rhythm.
Slower than before.
Softer than before.
Your nervous system just received a direct signal the exhale longer than the inhale.
Tells your body.
The danger is over.
You can calm down now.
Bring your attention now to the points of contact between your body and the surface beneath you the back of your head.
Your shoulder blades.
Your lower back.
Your hips.
The backs of your legs.
Feel how you are completely held.
Every part of you supported.
You don't have to hold yourself together anymore The bear is doing that.
Let your body get heavier with every exhale not forcing it.
Just allowing gravity to do what it does.
Sinking,
Settling,
Arriving.
And now a slow scan.
Moving your awareness gently from head to feet.
Not to fix anything,
Just to acknowledge each part of your body and give it permission to release your forehead and scalp.
So.
.
.
The space between your eyebrows smooth and open.
Your eyes still resting behind closed lids.
Jaw,
Let it go soft.
Your lips barely touching or slightly parted.
Your neck long and easy.
Your shoulders dropping away from your ears,
Melting outward.
Your arms heavy.
Your hands open and still.
Chest rising and falling on its own.
Open and guarded.
Your belly completely soft.
Your lower back released.
Into the mattress your hips wide and settled.
Your legs still,
Your feet released.
All the way to your toes.
Your body is resting right now,
In this moment It is already resting.
Now let's turn to the anxious mind.
Because that's why you're here,
Isn't it?
Not just tired.
But that particular kind of tire that comes with a mind that won't stop.
The kind that makes sleep feel like something you have to earn.
Rather than something you can simply receive Here's what anxiety does at night.
Convinces you that thinking harder will solve something.
That if you just process it one more time Replay it one more time.
Plan for it one more time.
Then you'll be able to rest.
But that's not how it works.
The thinking does not resolve anxiety,
It feeds it.
So instead,
We're going to do something counterintuitive We're going to stop trying to resolve anything We're going to let the thoughts Be there.
I'm finished.
Unanswered.
On Resolve.
And rest anyway.
Try this.
Whatever thought is present right now.
Whatever worry or replay or what if,
Just silently acknowledge it.
Say to yourself,
I see you you can stay.
I am resting anyway.
Not pushing the thought away.
Not engaging with it.
Just acknowledging it and returning to the breath I see you.
You can stay.
I'm resting anyway.
Breathing slowly.
And out even other thought comes.
I see you.
You can stay.
I'm resting anyway Breathe in.
.
.
And now.
You are not your thoughts tonight.
You are the awareness that notices them.
Steady.
Quiet.
Unchanged by whatever passes through The thoughts can come and go.
And you remain here.
Breathing,
Resting,
Still.
And feel your body again.
Heavy.
Warm.
And feel your breath.
Slow.
Easy.
Natural.
And feel the stillness in this room Nothing is required of you here.
Nothing needs to be solved,
Fixed,
Or figured out before morning comes.
You can rest now.
Resting.
Is useful for you right now.
For your body.
Your mind.
And everything else can wait for tomorrow.
Breathe in.
And out.
I see you.
You can stay.
I am resting anyway.
Breath in… and out.
You can rest.
Now.
Good night.
