Welcome,
My name is Andrea Trevillion,
And I teach emotional healing and spiritual growth with the goal of helping you transform your life into one filled with inner peace and joy.
I do this through writing,
Classes,
And one-on-one work.
Today I want to talk a little bit about self-care for empaths.
Having an empath puts us at risk for absorbing so many emotions that we no longer know what is ours,
What is somebody else's,
What is our issue,
What is somebody else's.
And this will also manifest in our physical bodies and elsewhere depending on what type of empath we are.
I personally am an empath who can pick up just about anything,
Including stuff coming from the spirit world.
So I'm going to share with you today what I do for my own personal self-care to stay balanced and understand what is mine.
The key here is this is my self-care routine.
This isn't what I do for protection.
That's a completely different set of information.
This is literally what I do every single day in order to stay balanced and in connection with what is mine.
So the first thing is meditation.
Meditation is the perfect way to calm your mind,
Center into yourself,
And begin to understand what's yours and what is not yours.
The second thing that I do is journal.
What I typically do is I will do a meditation in the morning and then I follow that directly with journaling.
Journaling gives me the space to explore not only what came up in the meditation,
But digging into what I'm feeling.
I can ask clarifying questions as simple as,
Is this mine or is this not mine?
If it's not mine,
I can even dig in further as to why am I feeling this?
Why am I picking it up,
Especially if I haven't been around anybody lately and I'm picking up somebody's energy on the spiritual plane.
Journaling can help me kind of dig deeper into what that is.
The third thing that I do on a daily basis is movement.
When you're an empath and you're absorbing everybody else's energy,
It is really critical to remove excess energy from your body.
Now,
Every day is different as to what I might need for this.
It might be that I'm actually not picking up a ton of energy and I really am just having my own.
On those days,
I might do a walk or yoga,
A very gentle movement.
I'm still moving because it's consistency that's key.
There's other days where I am picking up so much energy from other people that I literally need to shake it off to expel it from my body.
On those days,
I do a high intensity exercise.
For me,
That's plyometrics.
It can be running.
It can be whatever you feel comfortable with that is more focused on the exertion than just simple movement.
The fourth thing that I do is every single day,
And I typically do this at night,
I do an energy clearing of my space.
Especially I do this at night because it's right before I go to bed.
I simply check in,
What's the energy like in my room?
What's the energy like in my house?
Then if necessary,
Clear and rebalance it.
I use many different ways to clear and rebalance it depending on how intense it is.
It might require Sage.
It might require Palo Santo.
It might just simply require sending energy or Reiki to a specific area.
Every night I do a check in and cleanse the space that I'm at.
Number five is Reiki.
I am a Reiki master,
So I am able to do self-Reiki.
I try once a day to clear everything out.
Again,
I try and do this at bedtime.
After I've cleared this energy of my space,
I will do the Reiki in order to clear the excess energy from my body before I sleep.
I highly recommend if you're not a Reiki practitioner and don't have the ability to do this,
That you can either go to a Reiki practitioner once in a while to get that clearing,
Or you can also look to alternative sources such as meditation.
There are ways that we can transmit Reiki that it doesn't require the person to be there.
You can even just search for Reiki meditation and that will help you also.
The sixth thing is more about taking something away.
That's really monitoring my media exposure.
I am hyper aware when I am on social media and when I am reading and watching the news of what I'm feeling.
Am I picking up something from somebody else?
Has my energy shifted?
As soon as that happens,
I shut it all down.
I also during times of intense stress work on just not even going on.
Like election week here in the US,
I uninstalled Twitter,
I uninstalled Facebook,
Just completely eliminated that from my surroundings so I wasn't picking up that stuff.
Then the final thing that I do,
And I do this also right before bed,
Is a quick shower.
Not a full wash my hair shower,
Literally just washing away all that excess energy before I get into bed.
That helps really wash everything away that isn't caught by everything else.
Now I know this feels or sounds like it might be a lot to do every single day,
But I want to say it isn't a lot.
That is because when you do something on a consistent basis,
There's less and less to clear and manage.
The example of clearing my energy space,
If I do it on a nightly basis,
It rarely ever takes me longer than five minutes.
If I wait an entire month between clearing the energy of my space,
Then it does take me a lot longer.
My morning meditation is 11 minutes and I follow it up with approximately 15 minutes of journaling.
The practice of these on the daily basis is what helps to keep them shorter.
Plus,
As an empath,
If we let ourselves pick up and absorb everything,
We actually end up costing ourselves time down the road,
Whether it's through an illness or just not being able to function.
Making a little bit of time for these daily self-care practices really helps us as empaths in the long run.
So don't be afraid of adding more self-care than you think you can manage because as you go forward,
As you continue this process,
It gets quicker and quicker and more and more beneficial.
I hope these tips help you.
I know they've been a great blessing to my life.
