Merry Meet.
Welcome to Magical Minutes,
A series of short talks on topics of interest to Wiccans,
Pagans,
And Witches.
Whether you are new to the craft,
An experienced practitioner,
Or simply curious about nature-based spiritualities,
All are welcome and honored here.
Let's spend a few Magical Minutes together.
In this episode,
We'll be taking a look at Sage and how this herb can be used in the practice of magic.
You've no doubt heard the phrase Sage Advice at some point.
That's because Wisdom is one of this herb's magical properties.
It is also widely used in workings for cleansing,
Grounding,
Healing,
Peace,
And purification.
For centuries,
From early Egyptian to Native American traditions,
Sage has been considered to be a sacred plant.
Although there are nearly a thousand known species,
Common sage and garden sage varieties are well known for both culinary and magical purposes,
While white sage is most often used for smudging.
Sage is associated with the planet Jupiter and the element of Earth.
It can be used as dried incense or simply burned in a cauldron so that its purifying power can rise and fill an area.
Burning sage during rituals allows for a connection to the divine while also cleansing the sacred space by clearing out negative energies.
When burning sage to cleanse an area or ritual space,
Start by setting your intention.
You might wish to include a prayer or invocation.
You could even say something such as,
I call upon the power of these herbs to and state your intention.
Energies now,
I hear combine.
I hallow these blessings of the divine,
So mote it be.
Then light your sage and after it begins burning,
Blow out the flame and allow the smoke to rise.
You can then walk from area to area or corner to corner and perform a smoke cleansing by waving your hand above the burning sage.
If indoors,
Opening a door or windows is recommended.
This prevents the smoke from becoming too intense and it gives the negative energies you wish to send away a path to escape.
You can choose to purchase or make your own smudge sticks with white sage for this purpose,
But dried garden sage also works quite well.
In fact,
Growing your own sage can be quite rewarding as it affords the practitioner an even deeper connection to the plant.
Plus,
With the recent over-harvesting of white sage,
It makes good ecological sense.
Sage enjoys full sun and well-drained soil.
If you're short on space,
It can thrive in simple pots.
When cooking with white sage or using it to make tea,
You're calling upon its magical properties in much the same way as when it is used in ritual.
So,
Be sure to charge it with your intention and combine it with your energy in those cases too.
Thank you for joining me for this episode of Magical Minutes.
May you walk in love and light,
And may all of your days be filled with magic.
Blessed be.
