Hello kids and welcome.
So I've got some expert feedback for our practice today from my five-year-old daughter and she says her favourite part of the practice last week was the tree roots part.
So we're going to use that as our inspiration for today's practice.
You can ask your parents afterwards if they know a book called The Lord of the Rings.
In this book there's some things called Ents and what Ents are are big,
Very,
Very ancient trees who like to stand in one place like trees a lot of the time,
But they also like to move and walk around sometimes as well.
So today we're going to practice being like Ents.
What I would like you to do first is listen to the sound of this gong and see if you can just move a little bit like a tree might move to the sound of the gong.
So it's the same gong as last time.
So now I'd like you to stand there with your feet on the floor,
Spread your toes and imagine your tree roots growing down,
Down,
Down into the earth.
Now I don't know exactly how the Ents do it,
But the Ents can lift up their roots and move around.
These are the tree creatures that walk.
So the first thing I want you to do is to do some movement and to move and walk around like a tree might.
So I think these trees are very slow in the way they move,
Very careful.
How do you imagine a tree to move?
You can move in one spot or you can move around the room.
Move like an Ent,
An ancient old tree that can walk around from place to place.
Now you decide to stop for a while in one place and put down your roots into the ground.
Perhaps there's a nice gentle breeze and you're listening to the sounds of the forest around you and swaying or moving like a tree.
So your feet are becoming still in the ground,
But your body is still swaying or moving like a tree.
Now you start to take some nice deep tree breaths as you settle into the spot where you're going to stay for a while.
The other thing Ents do is once they've found a spot,
They stay there sometimes for a really long time,
Like years and years.
They might just stay in one spot.
So fill your tree roots growing into the ground and take some deep breaths in,
Down into your roots and some soft sighing,
Breaths out as you relax into your spot.
Deep breath down into your roots in and a breath out through your mouth.
And then the last thing I want you to imagine is you're now one of these tree Ents having a bit of a rest,
A sleep.
There's no breeze at all to move your leaves and you're still as a statue sleeping and not moving a drop.
Like a big tree you might be able to imagine somewhere near where you live when there's not a drop of wind,
The branches are still and it's night time and everything's quiet,
Having a peaceful resting sleep.
That's where I'm going to leave you today,
Imagining you are a tree Ent having a nice,
Nice rest.
I'm going to give you the gong sound.
I just want you to listen and that tells you it will soon be time to come back into the rest of your day or night and do whatever happens next.
Bye bye,
Thank you.
