Hello and welcome my fellow meditators to this letting go New Year's meditation.
Oh,
Letting go.
What does it even mean,
Right?
Letting go can feel like such a big ask,
Especially when we've had a year like the one we have all had.
You might be asking yourself,
There is so much to let go of.
Where do I even start?
Sometimes letting go is as simple as making a decision,
Deciding intentionally to let go of a relationship,
Deciding intentionally to unsubscribe from newsletters you never read or unfollowing people on social media that make you feel less than or deciding to let go of a closet full of clothes you don't feel good in.
Other times,
Letting go is a bit more of a process.
Letting go of patterns of behaviors you've had for years.
That takes time peeling back the layers of limiting beliefs and expectations that have kept you stuck.
It takes time.
Today's letting go meditation really is an invitation to make that decision or to start that process and really clear out your mental,
Emotional,
Physical and spiritual space.
So let's go ahead and get started.
Shall we take a moment here to get nice and comfy and cozy.
Let the body just start to relax.
Let the body just start to relax.
Shoulders drop down and away from the ears.
Let the arms and the hands relax.
Allow the hips to settle.
Let the tension melt away from the lower body all the way down into the toes.
And tuning into your beautiful breath.
Gently noticing the breath as it moves easily in through the nose and out through the nose.
Gently noticing the breath as it moves easily in through the nose and out through the nose.
Take one more scan of the body here.
See if there's any last bit of tension that is asking to be released.
And using the breath here to release out that tension.
Taking a big breath in through the nose here together.
Letting go of the tension.
Letting go of the tension.
Letting go of the tension.
Letting go of the tension.
Release out that tension,
Taking a big breath in through the nose here together.
And opening out the mouth,
Letting it go.
Two more times,
Inhale,
Breathing in fully through the nose,
Filling up the lungs.
Big deep breath.
Open up the mouth,
Exhale,
Let it all go.
Let the tension release.
Last time here together,
Inhale,
Biggest breath you've had.
And open up the mouth,
Exhale,
Release and relax.
And from this relaxed place,
Starting to tune into the body.
Starting with a little gentle inquiry.
What would you love to let go of right now in this very moment?
What in your life has been weighing you down?
What have you been tolerating?
What about life right now feels hard?
You may start to notice that you feel a sensation of this thing somewhere in your body.
Tune into the body in this moment and notice if you feel a heaviness.
Notice if you feel a weight,
A tightness,
A tension of where this thing is really holding on.
Maybe you feel it in your chest or in your heart space.
Maybe you feel it in your belly or your solar plexus.
Maybe you feel it in the jaw or right at the third eye center.
Noticing and observing and being with this sensation.
And if it's available to you in this moment,
Place your hands on the place of your body where you're feeling this tension,
Where you're feeling this weight of this thing.
Allowing your hands to be a comfort in this moment.
Take a nice deep breath in right here.
Breathe into the place where your hands are.
And as you exhale,
Imagine the energy of this thing you want to let go of moving into your hands.
And as you do so,
Allowing the hands to fall gently back down into the lap,
Palms face up.
Imagine holding what it is you want to let go of in the palm of your hands.
Maybe it feels like a sensation.
Maybe it's a word.
Maybe it's a person,
Place or thing.
Whatever it is for you,
Allow it to reside in the palm of your hands in this moment.
And now bringing into your mind's eye,
Picturing yourself standing right on the bank of a beautiful river.
Starting to hear the river as it effortlessly flows past your feet.
Noticing the landscape,
Noticing the environment.
And when you feel ready,
Walking right to the very edge of the river.
Maybe even your toes and your feet step into the cool water.
And glancing down at this thing in your hands that you want to let go of.
Take a moment here to thank it.
Take a moment here to honor.
Take a moment here to really see this thing for what it is,
What it's taught you,
The strength,
The resilience,
The lessons this thing has taught you.
Even saying it out loud or to yourself,
Thank you.
And when you feel ready,
Bend down and place what you want to let go of into the river.
And feel the cold water in your hands.
And allow this thing to effortlessly,
Easefully move out of your hands and down the river.
Taking a moment here,
Standing back up,
Hands placed on your heart,
Thanking yourself for being courageous.
For being open.
For making the hard decision to let this thing go.
It's not always easy.
Tuning back into the breath here,
Back into the body.
Noticing how you feel.
Tuning back into that place in the body where you're holding on to that tension,
Holding on to that weight.
Notice and observe how does that place in your body feel now?
Can you identify a new sensation?
A new emotion?
And taking a breath here,
Breathing in through the nose.
And breathing out the mouth.
Two more times.
Inhale,
Breathing it in.
Exhale,
Relax and let go.
One more time here.
Inhale,
Breathing it in.
Breathing in light,
Breathing in energy.
And exhale,
Release and relax.
Hands can gently fall back into the lap.
Letting go is sometimes a process.
You have begun that process.
Thank you so much for meditating here with me today.
Take your time coming back out of this meditation.
Taking gentle wiggles of the fingers and the toes.
When you feel ready,
Gently fluttering the eyes back open.
Arriving back into the present moment here.
Until we meditate together again,
Which I hope is very,
Very soon.
Namaste my friends.
