If you struggle with sleep,
I'm guessing you've heard all the usual tips.
Have a bedtime ritual,
Darken your room,
Dim screens in the evening,
Limit screens at least an hour or two before bed,
Limit or eliminate caffeine.
I think most of us have pretty much heard it all.
But here's my number one tip for sleep support.
Turn down the pressure to sleep and turn up the intention to rest.
I know if you're having trouble falling asleep or falling back asleep,
It can be very concerning and disturbing.
For some people,
It can even be downright scary as the hours pass by and you're one step closer to having to go to work,
School,
Tend to your kids,
Or function in whatever way you need to function.
Not to mention you just want to feel good and rested.
I totally understand.
But I also know that pressuring ourselves to fall asleep or getting stressed about being awake does not help us fall asleep.
So what can you do if you're having trouble falling asleep?
Set the intention to rest.
Listen to a guided meditation,
Count your breaths,
Repeat a mantra.
There's lots of things that we can do with the intention of resting.
But pressuring ourselves to fall asleep or stressing about still being awake does not help us get rest.
So if you find yourself tossing and turning,
Try shifting your mindset to rest.
Decrease the volume of the pressure to sleep channel and increase the volume on the intention to rest.
Do or think whatever you're drawn to that will help you rest and notice what happens.
Wishing you deep,
Deep rest.
