This short, contemplative meditation invites the listener to dwell on the idea that life, reality, or consciousness naturally drift from one version of themselves to another. This brief, yet fascinating talk by John is a piece that aims to show the listener how, when sitting still, the mind will naturally drift into thought or be taken by distractions. John hopes to convey, that this should be seen as a way of life, and instead of feeling worrisome, embrace this natural shift of the mind.

As you sit here,

Notice the way in which attention naturally drifts from one point of focus to the next.

Feel the way in which attention and experience move and undulate like the tides,

Constantly changing,

Shifting from one moment to the next.

Now as you sit here,

Noticing this natural drifting of attention and experience,

Should you suddenly find yourself having seemingly lost contact with this drifting of experience,

Don't worry.

That's just the next place the drifting has taken you.

This is just life's nature to never hold still.

Like clouds moving through the sky,

We are forever drifting,

One state wafting into the next.

In every instant,

The focus of attention shifts,

Even if in very subtle,

Barely perceptible ways.

Some moment comes into view,

And then we suddenly find ourselves somewhere else,

Having drifted away.

But this is not some spiritual mistake.

It's simply what life does.

Really,

It's not possible to drift away from reality,

For there is only reality,

Forever drifting into itself.

This really speaks to me. I like having some very short meditations for when I have only a very short time. I can take some slow deep breaths, and when I do have the chance, I can pause the meditation to contemplate certain points.
