Find a comfortable position.
Let your body settle where you are.
Take a slow breath in through your nose and gently breathe out.
Again,
Breathing in slowly and breathing out.
You may be listening to this because a message has appeared,
Perhaps after a period of silence.
Maybe you had started to regain some distance,
Some clarity,
Some calm and now suddenly your attention is pulled back.
One message can do that.
It can reopen hope,
Curiosity,
Questions.
The mind may immediately begin analyzing.
What does this mean?
Why now?
Should I respond?
Right now you don't have to decide anything.
You only need a moment to return to yourself.
Take a slow breath in and breathe out.
Bring your attention to the sensation of breathing,
Air moving in,
Air moving out.
Notice the surface beneath your body.
Allow your shoulders to drop slightly.
Let your hands rest wherever they feel comfortable.
A message may have arrived but your center is still here,
Inside your own breath,
Inside your own body.
You do not need to react immediately.
You do not need to follow the surge of emotion.
You are allowed to pause.
Take another slow breath in and gently release it.
Notice the difference between the message itself and the story the mind begins to build around it.
One is simply a few words on a screen.
The other is a whole imagined future.
Right now you can step back from the story and return to the present moment.
Breathing in slowly and breathing out.
Clarity often returns when we give ourselves space,
Not when we react in the first wave of emotion.
Let your breath move naturally and stay here for a few moments.
This meditation is part of my Emotional First Aid series.
Short practices for moments when emotions feel overwhelming and your nervous system needs a steady reset.
If you recognize the pattern of being pulled back into a connection that leaves you feeling uncertain or emotionally tangled,
You may find deeper support in my course when you know it isn't right but can't let go.
Here on Insight Timer.
Take one more slow breath and gently return to your day.
