Hi,
My name is Samantha.
I want to do a short reflection exercise,
And if you are in a safe spot,
You can do this with your eyes closed,
But if you're driving or walking,
I want to ask you to keep your eyes open,
As it's okay to reflect with your eyes open as well.
What are your personal definition of happiness,
And what that means to you?
Do you tend to seek quick fulfillment?
Or when you think of happiness,
Do you think of long-term goals?
Do you go for that extra glass of wine or dessert?
Are you looking for things that help you grow and learn in the long term?
Or do you do a little bit of a balance in between?
Consider some of these examples,
And as you're considering these,
Think about,
Are you happy with how you approach this happiness,
Or would you rather have a balance between it?
If you are working those long hours all the time,
Do you wish sometimes that you would go for that quick fulfillment every once in a while?
Or if you're the opposite,
If you're just looking for that quick fulfillment and never seeking happiness in the long term,
Do you wish you had more of a balance?
And at this time,
We're not considering why we don't do the opposite if we veer towards one or the other,
But just think about that.
Now,
Reflect on one little thing that brought you joy and gratitude lately,
Such as a text you received from a friend,
A meal you recently ate,
The weather outside,
Someone passing by who might have been a stranger but said hello,
Or maybe your hands were full of groceries and they held the door for you.
Perhaps you found the perfect parking spot,
Or anything else,
Anything big or these small little things.
Either silently or out loud,
Say thank you for making my day happier.
Now,
Throughout your day,
I ask you to try to notice these small things,
The little joys in your day,
And as you do,
Acknowledge them.
And as you notice them,
Say thank you to the universe for sending them your way.
These small little things that you may have not realized before,
Such as the train coming at the perfect time,
Someone grabbing the elevator for you,
Or any of these things with the perfect timing,
And you may have taken it for granted before.
Those are the little things the universe is sending your way to make your day better.
When you notice them,
Just say to yourself thank you.
So how can you hold yourself accountable so you can make sure happiness continues to come your way?
How might you make this promise to yourself?
Maybe you'll put a reminder in your phone.
However you do it,
Make this commitment for yourself as you deserve happiness.
Take care,
My friend.
