In the world that we live in today,
Many of us don't feel completely safe in our bodies.
This can be because of trauma,
Stress,
Anxiety,
Pain.
There are so many reasons.
Where our life can just lead us to not feel really safe in the body,
Or like we don't want to fully embody who we are.
But coming back into relationship with the body and getting to know it as a safe and secure space is a really nourishing and enriching experience.
You're always in your body and your body actually has so many enriching resources to it that can help you cultivate self-acceptance and self-love.
It can become a real support for you in your life,
Like a little safe haven that the outside world can't touch.
And this really starts to shift how you feel about yourself.
But often this is something that needs time to be nurtured and grow.
As many of us need time to trust the body and allow ourselves to really fully embody it.
It sounds quite simple but in fact not all that straightforward to do.
So I thought it's something worthwhile touching into here as we begin this journey together.
And even if right now you don't feel like you can fully embody a safe and comforting body,
It's important to get to know where you are with it and how you can nurture it in time.
So let's meditate and see how it feels for you today.
I don't usually have sound in my meditations in order for you to go deeper inward.
But for this practice I will have the healing sounds of Tibetan singing bowls in the background.
And this is to support your inward journey and deep relaxation.
So enjoy.
So as we begin,
Find yourself somewhere comfortable to be,
However that is for you.
You're welcome to be seated on the floor or sitting in a chair to support your body or even lying down if that's more comfortable for you.
Let yourself feel what your body needs today.
It's good to be in a position where you feel awake so that your body doesn't fall asleep.
But even that's actually alright.
But you don't need to hold yourself straight.
It's better to be relaxed and natural.
When you're ready,
Gently close your eyes and give yourself a moment to arrive.
In the meditation I'll give you some guidance and then I'll leave some spaces where I won't talk in order for you to just be and notice whatever is happening for you.
As you gradually settle,
It's almost like you need to give yourself permission to be here,
Present in the moment.
Right now you are safe.
You are loved.
There's nowhere else you need to be right now.
There's nothing you need to be doing right now.
Just let everything else go.
And let yourself be with your breath in your body.
Comforted and soothed by the sounds of the bowls.
Notice how your breath feels in your body.
Maybe you notice the air coming in and out of your nostrils and throat.
Or how your lungs and belly rise and fall as you breathe in and out.
Become aware of how when you breathe out,
Your body relaxes.
And allow your body to follow that.
Letting go and relaxing each time.
And by watching your breath come in and out of your body,
It allows your whole system to gradually calm and rest.
Notice how it feels in your body.
Do you notice any holding or tension anywhere in your body?
Maybe like in your neck or shoulders area?
Or maybe the muscles in your face?
Wherever you notice tension or holding,
Gently take a deep breath in.
And as you breathe a long slow breath out,
Let that area in your body deeply relax towards the ground.
You can keep doing that over and over whenever you notice tension in your body.
You could notice the ground below you.
Maybe that's a chair or a bed.
And for a moment notice how that ground really supports you.
No matter what.
And as much as you can,
See if you can trust that sense of ground.
And really let your whole body deeply relax into it.
Breath by breath.
As you begin to settle and touch into an inner quiet and stillness,
It can feel deeply nourishing.
And you're welcome to stay with what resources you.
It could be the breath,
Relaxation in your muscles,
The ground.
Gradually letting go.
Relaxing and resting.
As you relax there,
Let's have a feel around the body.
For anything that feels pleasant or satisfying.
Maybe you feel there's something quite nice about the calm and quiet.
Let yourself enjoy it.
Or maybe you feel nourished by how your relaxed muscles and body feels.
If you feel into your heart center,
You maybe feel a sense of love there.
Maybe there's something really beautiful and comforting about having love in your heart.
Maybe you feel a deep knowing that actually you're a really good person with so much love to share.
Whatever you notice in the space of your body,
It feels satisfying somehow.
Let yourself enjoy it.
Don't worry about needing to notice something huge.
It can often be that you just begin to notice all these pleasant and nourishing subtleties in the body.
And let them open out as much as they want to.
If you notice you get pulled out by thoughts or worries,
Take a deep breath in and as you breathe a long slow breath out,
Deeply relax your body.
And maybe notice how comforting that feels.
Letting yourself really relax and rest.
As with anything,
This new relationship takes time to form a deep bond of trust.
But this grows and expands in time and gradually can transform how you inhabit your body and enjoy all the enrichment and support it provides you.
So if you feel like you struggle to really let go and be fully in your body or you don't feel safe in your body,
Please don't worry.
It could mean that you just need time to begin to trust your body again.
I encourage you to take your time with it and also feel free to explore other avenues.
It might bring you back into relationship with your body.
That might be yoga or some type of movement,
Maybe time in nature.
All these things can bring us into deeper connection with ourselves and support our journey of healing.
Getting to know and trust your body as a safe and secure place is really worthwhile if you're looking to cultivate self-acceptance,
Self-love and value.
