Eagle and Sky,
These planet meditations are designed for you to sit with the beautiful elements and life in all its glorious creation on our earth,
As you quiet yourself to be here right now.
I invite you now to softly close your eyes,
Beginning to feel your breath gently flowing in and out of your lungs.
Taking a few moments here,
Becoming aware of the softness of your breath.
Feeling your jaw,
Feeling the air entering and leaving your whole body as you simply sit or lie or perhaps stand quietly.
Maybe this is the first time today you find yourself here,
Remembering to pause,
To stop and beginning to notice your breath,
Your physical sensations,
Your own body here,
Resting with whatever you notice.
And now breathing gently in your own natural rhythm,
Coming back to this breath and the next and noticing where your mind might be travelling.
And with the next breath,
Coming back to the flow of your breath in and out of your body.
As our mind wanders,
Our body awaits with compassion for us to return.
So maybe smiling gently now as you allow your mind and body to come together in this moment,
This breath,
Breathing smoothly.
And if today you find breathing difficult,
Simply noticing the sounds you can hear right now.
Maybe you can hear your breath or the movements of your body or a sound in the room where you rest or outside.
And if you feel the sound of your breath,
Your ears notice,
Not following the sound,
Letting it come and then perhaps leave again.
Maybe now you can begin to feel the movements in your body as it fills and nourishes itself with air,
Perhaps noticing any physical sensations in your body as you rest here now.
Bringing your awareness as you slowly scan down through your body,
Breathing with ease as you do so.
Noticing the air on your cheeks,
Maybe it's warm or cool,
And down through your neck to your shoulders,
Your arms,
Your hands.
Noticing the position of your hands as you rest here.
And back up your arms into your chest,
Bringing your attention and awareness to the front of your body,
Round to the back,
Spreading out between your shoulder blades.
And now down to your hips and into your legs,
Past your knees,
Your ankles,
And down to your feet.
Your feet that lie or rest on the ground beneath,
And bringing your full awareness to the whole of your body now,
Resting here with you as you give yourself this time with gratitude and compassion,
Safely supported by the surface beneath you,
Breathing naturally and feeling the joy perhaps of being here right now with this breath.
Now bringing into your mind the image of a wide open sky.
It might be a picture of a sky you've seen or an image from a film or a sky you remember seeing or maybe simply a sky in your imagination,
Your own image of a beautiful,
Vast sky.
So lying here now,
Supported by the surface on which you rest and feeling it holding you as you visualize your own open sky,
What color is your sky?
Is it a bright azure blue or is it a steely dark gray?
Maybe your sky is a soft pale white or perhaps you have clouds in your sky.
There could be just a few wisps or many blankets and layers of dense clouds or perhaps there are towering dark thunderclouds.
So seeing your sky and noticing all you can of it,
What's the weather in your sky doing just now?
Is it hot and clear or is it raining perhaps with thunder and lightning?
Large hailstones thrashing down to the ground below and listening now to what are the sounds in your sky.
Maybe there's a strong wind flowing through your sky,
Buffeting as it pushes the waves of heavy rain or just a gentle breeze sounding like a soft whistle as it travels through your sky,
Past the tops of the mountains.
Or maybe your sky has a violent angry wind screaming and howling as it passes through.
Or your sky may be completely peaceful,
Silent,
The peace broken only by the cries of the eagle as she wheels and soars high in the atmosphere.
Now bringing your full awareness to all of these things,
The tempests of wind,
The travelling birds,
The rain and clouds,
The moon and the sun.
Noticing your sky holds it all,
The space is always there,
Whatever colours,
Whatever weather,
Whatever birds or planes or clouds pass through,
The airy space of your sky is always here,
Silent and still,
The unmoving,
Unchanging space that holds the changing weather,
The gathering clouds,
The rising sun and the sinking moon.
And as the seasons come and go,
Your sky is always there,
The background to all that comes and leaves,
Unchanging,
Vast depth of air and space.
Now if you can see yourself as your sky,
So even as you lie here now,
Supported by the ground beneath you,
Bringing the image of yourself being a vast sky space.
And sometimes your clouds will gather and build,
Sometimes you may be filled with angry storm and sometimes your storms may bring icy rain that lasts for days,
Sometimes the weather will keep changing fast,
Confused and changeable,
Sometimes the moon power will charge you with crackling tension and sometimes perhaps your sun will shine its heat day after day with no respite or breaths of cooling wind.
And sometimes you'll be a perfect blue with gentle breeze and soft clouds passing through with ease,
But noticing now that whatever is going on in you,
Your sky,
Whatever is passing through your sky space,
Always behind it all,
Is your own vast space,
Your own unending depth of air,
Silent and softly holding all.
So even when your storms come and go,
No matter what's happening in you or around you,
Becoming aware of your own still,
Deep source,
Unchanging and always available to you.
So seeing that even as our suns may rise and our moons may lower,
Over the days,
Nights,
Weeks and months of the year,
The years will pass but you,
The sky,
Are simply holding it all,
Unchanging,
Nurturing,
Wise.
And now leaving your image and bringing your awareness into your body,
Feeling the pressure of your heels and calves,
Buttocks and back on the floor,
With your feet planted firmly on the ground as you sit,
Beginning to notice again the sound of your breath now and other sounds around you.
And when you hear the chime,
Slowly opening your eyes,
Bringing your attention into your fingers and your toes and gently moving them,
Taking a stretch and smiling.
Blessings and may you feel the spaciousness of our beautiful sky this week.
