Blessings.
So making yourself comfortable.
Taking a couple of full breaths.
I invite you to softly close your eyes.
Letting the breath out slowly.
Begin to feel your breath softly flowing in and out of your lungs.
Taking a few moments here.
Becoming aware of the softness of your breath.
Feeling it entering and leaving your whole body as you simply sit or lie.
I'm beginning now to notice any physical sensations you can feel in your body.
Beginning to notice how it feels for you in this moment.
What sensations might you notice in your body right here,
Right now?
Gently scanning slowly down as you breathe from your head,
Neck,
Shoulders,
Chest,
Back,
Tummy,
Hips,
Buttocks,
Thighs,
Calves.
Feeling into your feet.
Noticing the sensations in your feet,
In your toes.
Perhaps your toes are touching or maybe they're apart.
Whatever you notice just becoming aware of these sensations with a sense of gentle curiosity.
Nothing to do about them.
Simply bringing your focus into your body and into the physical sensations you might feel.
Perhaps you can sense some tingling or maybe a little numbness.
Perhaps there's a sense of tightness somewhere in your body.
Just breathing in and out and allowing all these sensations to just be.
Bringing a sense of kind curiosity to all you might find.
Becoming aware again of where your body is making contact with the surface supporting you.
Feeling your heels or calves or your shoulder blades pressing into the surface.
Just noticing and letting be.
And now bringing your awareness up through your body and into your lungs.
Noticing the feeling of the air entering and leaving your lungs.
Breathing in and out.
Noticing the movement of your body perhaps as it fills with fresh air and the movement as the air leaves again.
Perhaps you can even notice the pause on the in-breath before you let the air go.
And the pause on the out-breath just before you draw new air in.
Bringing your awareness to your own natural ebb and flow.
Your own natural breathing.
Noticing that your body knows what to do in every moment and with each breath.
And now maybe noticing the sensation of the breath on your cheeks.
Just blow your nose over your chin.
As you breathe in and as you breathe out what's the temperature of the air like on your face?
Is it warm or cool?
However it is for you right now just noticing with kind curiosity.
With nothing to do or change.
Nothing to decide.
No rights or wrongs just lying or sitting here supported by the surface on which you rest.
Breathing naturally and noticing what's happening for you in this moment.
And now bringing your awareness to any thoughts which may be arising.
Not striving to stop them.
They'll come so let them arrive and leave again.
Gently returning your attention to your breath and to breathing into your body.
And now bringing into your mind the image of a bare landscape.
A landscape you may have visited or one of your imagination.
A night has just arrived.
The moon is rising and its translucence lights up the shadows.
Maybe you can create this sense of a broad empty landscape with only the shape of the nearby hills.
And as the light is falling you can hear a faraway sound.
The sound of some wolves calling to each other as they gather together to rest.
So as you sit here feeling the support of the surface on which you rest.
You see in your mind's eye the silhouette of the hills and as you breathe in and out you can hear this distant howling like a beautiful song.
Their voices calling out to each other in rhythms and melodies from ancient times.
And as you look at your landscape you realize it's not empty at all.
The moon picks out the shapes of these beautiful animals as they settle for the night.
And as their song fades and only the wind washes the nighttime scene.
The peace returns to your landscape.
So noticing the space that comes as their sound fades and how that space is in turn filled with a wind and maybe the rain.
And becoming aware of all these sounds in your moonlit landscape.
Perhaps there are smaller creatures rustling,
Scavenging,
Hungry for their midnight meal.
Or larger shapes moving quietly along the floor of the valley or over the sides of the hill face.
And as you lie or sit comfortable and warm and safely held by the surface on which you rest bringing into your image into your own moonlit landscape whatever animals beckon to you.
And as you see them enter your landscape noticing their sense of purpose,
Their focused attention on the present moment as they travel across your prairie scene.
And now hearing the wolves again as one of them starts up the cry and united they all join in for a moment bonded and wise each knowing their part to play.
And then their voices low once more.
And you're left with the smaller sounds of the night.
And as you lie here now breathing together with the grasses and the animals and wolves of your landscape you begin to sense the brightness of the moon shining without pause.
It's light flooding the earth below.
Each night,
Each month,
Each year it rises and falls in its own rhythms.
Sometimes shrouded in cloud.
Sometimes a sliver of new hope.
And sometimes a huge hanging orb of immense strength always returning,
Always shining,
Silent,
Strong,
Steady.
And now if you can see yourself as the moon becoming aware of your own steady light that rises and falls each day as you go through your own natural rhythms of life.
As the moon your moods and shapes may change but always inside shines your silent and strong steady light.
And at any time,
At any moment whether you feel thin like a crescent moon or full and powerful like the full moon,
Your light will continue to be there.
Clouds will come and go over your life and the weather may change for you but you remain whole,
Shining,
Steady.
And as the moon has its place with the planets,
As the wolves each feel their sense of one with their pack,
So do we remember and return to our sense of belonging in our beautiful world with the moon and with the wolves.
Sharing the energy and joy of this life.
Breathing the air the wolves breathe,
Feeling the winds that pass through those grasses and feeling the steady light of the moon always within us.
Shining silently,
Strong.
And now focusing fully onto your breath once more,
Onto the in-breath and the out-breath and simply bringing your full awareness to this moment right now,
Noticing your breath breathing in and out,
Filling your lungs with fresh clean air.
A new breath in each and every moment and when you hear the bell,
Gently opening your eyes,
Wriggling your fingers and toes and taking a stretch in whatever way feels right for you.
May the wolves wisdom and the steady light of your moon be with you this week.
