This grounding practice is designed for moments when your body feels tense, unsettled, or unsafe. Through gentle orientation, steady breath, and supportive hand placement, you’ll be guided back into present-moment awareness without pressure or overwhelm. There is no need to change what you’re feeling, only space to notice and soften. This practice supports your nervous system in relearning safety, one breath at a time. Take a moment to notice that you're here.

You don't need to change anything right now.

If your body feels unsettled,

Tense,

Buzzy,

Distant,

Or just not quite like you,

That's okay.

We're not here to force it to feel different,

We're just here to begin noticing,

Gently,

Without judgment.

You might notice tightness somewhere,

Pressure,

Warmth,

Coolness,

Restlessness,

Even numbness.

Whatever is present,

Let it be information,

Not a problem,

Not a failure,

Just sensation.

And if it feels like too much to focus inward,

That's okay too.

Let's start by looking outward.

So,

Without moving too quickly,

Gently look around you.

Name five things that you can see.

Maybe it's a door,

A window,

A lamp,

A shadow on the wall,

A piece of fabric.

Just let your eyes land on each one.

Notice their shape,

Their color,

Their edges.

Now notice four things that you can physically feel.

The surface beneath you,

The temperature of the air,

Your feet touching the floor or the bed,

Clothing against your skin.

Just simple contact,

Nothing complicated.

Now listen for three sounds,

They might be close or far away.

Just noticing you are here,

In this room,

In this moment,

And right now you are safe enough to keep breathing.

If it feels okay,

Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly,

Or simply one hand wherever feels most grounding.

And notice the warmth of your own touch.

You are making contact with yourself,

Not to fix,

Not to control,

Just to anchor.

And feel your chest rise under your hand and feel your belly gently expand.

No need to deepen the breath yet,

Just notice it.

And now if it feels accessible,

Let's try a steady rhythm.

You want to inhale through your nose for a count of four,

And then we'll exhale through the mouth for four,

And repeat that.

So take a breath and exhale it,

Then we'll begin.

So inhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Inhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Inhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale,

Two,

Three,

Four.

And continue.

No need to force the breath to be big,

Just small and steady is perfect.

As you breathe,

Notice if any sensations shift.

They don't have to disappear,

But they might soften,

Or maybe they move,

And they might stay the same,

And that's all okay.

Your body is not your enemy.

Even when it feels loud or uncomfortable,

It is trying to protect you.

And right now,

You're teaching it something new,

That this moment is different,

That this room is steady,

And that your breath is available.

Now feel the outline of your body,

The edges of your skin,

Your back supported,

Your legs grounded,

Your hands resting.

You have boundaries,

You have shape,

You are here.

And in this moment,

Nothing is chasing you.

Nothing is demanding action.

Nothing needs to be solved right now.

Just this breath.

Just this contact.

So keep your hand where it feels most grounding,

And let the breath return to its natural rhythm.

Notice even the smallest shift.

A fraction more ease,

A tiny bit more steadiness.

That is enough.

You are not required to feel perfectly calm.

You are allowed to move slowly.

Your body is learning safety.

One breath at a time.

So take a final steady breath in.

Feel your feet.

Feel the room around you.

And when you are ready,

Gently open your eyes and come back to your space.
