In this short guided Qigong video lesson, you will learn the foundational breath of Qigong: abdominal (or diaphragmatic) breathing. Qigong is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It combines breathwork, mind focus, and simple movements to create the conditions for the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body and mind. When Qi flows smoothly, the body naturally returns to a healthy and harmonious state. Abdominal breathing quickly helps to calm, relax, and focus the mind on a mental and emotional level, helping to relieve stress and anxiety and improve sleep. It also energizes the body and optimizes breathing efficiency on a physical level, helping to elevate energy levels and improve motivation. Abdominal breathing is used at the beginning of any Qigong routine to bring us into the "Qigong State"—a settled and grounded state from which we can gain the most benefit from any Qigong exercises to follow.
