Welcome to this meditation on being grounded by the earth.
Find your way to stillness.
Of your sitting.
Plant your feet flat on the floor.
And if you're lying down.
Feel the full length of your back against the surface beneath you.
Close your eyes.
Let yourself be in your body.
We're going to work with the earth today.
Even you're high up in a flat,
An apartment.
Even if all you can see are buildings or car parks,
The earth is still beneath you.
Layers down.
Patient and steady.
Is there?
Take a breath in.
And as you breathe out,
Imagine that breath moving down through your body.
Stand through your legs.
Through the soles of your feet.
Through the floor.
Whatever is beneath it.
All the way down into the earth.
Feel the earth receive that breath as you keep breathing.
The Earth receives it as though it's been waiting just for you.
And take another deep breath in.
And this time as you breathe out.
Imagine roots beginning to grow from the soles of your feet.
Or the base of your spine.
They don't need to be dramatic.
Just slow and strong and steady.
Moving down.
Through whatever it is that separates you from the earth.
Whether that's air or concrete.
Anything at all.
These roots just travel down,
Down.
And they get to the earth and they move through the layers.
And imagine what they find down there.
Keep breathing.
Keep letting them grow.
Dark,
Rich soil.
The smell of rain and earth.
Stone.
Cool and ancient.
Maybe water moving deep underground.
Carrying minerals.
Something old and nourishing.
Your route to find all of this.
And the earth offers it freely.
And as you breathe out,
Your roots grow and connect.
Like coming home to the earth.
And as you breathe in,
Imagine what is coming back up through those roots.
What's traveling back up to you?
Love from the Earth.
Nourishment.
Stability and steadiness.
That quality of Something that's been here a very,
Very long time.
Let it rise up through your roots.
And as you breathe out,
You connect.
And as you breathe in,
It comes up.
In a kind of circular breathing.
Into your legs.
Into your belly.
Into your chest.
Your whole body becoming a little more settled.
A little more here.
A little more connected.
The Earth will always offer you stability.
And you can come back whenever you need it.
Anywhere you are in the world.
Any point of your day,
You don't need to be lying down or sitting meditating.
You can just take a breath.
And send your wrist down.
And bring steadiness up.
Take one more slow breath now.
Root stitch.
And steadiness rising.
And begin to come back slowly.
Feel the texture of whatever is beneath your hands.
Feel the weight of your body.
Let the blood tingle through your extremities.
Wiggle your fingers.
Let yourself smile.
Know that you're connected.
And when you're ready.
Open your eyes.
You are granted.
