As someone living with ADHD, I spent many years trying to understand how my brain works. In this video, I share a simple explanation of ADHD, why regulation sits at the heart of this condition, and how mindfulness can help us develop greater awareness and compassion for ourselves. Welcome,

Everyone.

It's a pleasure to have you here.

In this safe and caring space.

The topic we are going to speak about today is something that is very close to my heart.

It's called ADHD,

As you may have heard about,

Probably,

If you're on this video with us right now.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

So it's a neurodevelopmental condition that I've lived with since I'm born.

And it's often perceived as an attention disorder.

Hence the name.

But more and more scientists and everybody from the medical field.

Tend to agree that the actual attention is a part of it.

But actually,

There is much more to it.

And the core of this condition is more dysregulation.

So it's like a difficulty or a complexity to regulate.

So to regulate attention.

To regulate emotions.

To regulate impulsivity,

To regulate whatever wishes you can have.

It's a lot more complex than just attention,

And it's very much.

Around.

Regulation.

It is harder for an ADHD brain to regulate.

Because we function on dopamine.

Every move that we make or every thing we want to do is all driven by the capacity,

By like what we are going to get.

Like how much dopamine are we going to get from this?

So this is why if someone is telling you something that you're not interested in,

It is not releasing dopamine for you.

So you're not focused on what they're saying.

M.

Why is mindfulness very interesting in that case?

It's that mindfulness itself.

It's about training your awareness.

And therefore,

You know,

If you're conscious of something.

Much easier to regulate.

You know,

It gives you the perspective.

ADHD people,

Especially when you have hyperactivity,

Have strong impulsivity.

And the thing is,

When you have.

.

.

Strong impulsivity,

You don't have the perspective.

You just go.

You're like Yes,

This is exactly what I need right now.

I'm going for it.

I'm not thinking about it.

Well,

Mindfulness will help you.

Step back.

Look at the situation.

It will help you feel what is happening into your body.

You can restart.

Beware of like,

Okay.

Am I feeling an emotion right now?

Where is it in my body?

Or it can be also about just connecting.

To the present moment through your senses.

Come to that in another video.

So in other words.

.

.

Mindfulness can be extremely helpful if you have an ADHD mind or brain,

Because it will put you toward the path of regulation.

Through awareness.

It is all about being aware.

Of what is happening of the present moment of things like this.

I hope I may have given you a couple of clues.

And I will see you again in a new video.

Where we will enter a little bit more into details about how to become mindful.

The key is actually to become mindful if you have an ADHD brain.

And believe me,

There are many.

If you've enjoyed this video,

Please let me know.

I would like to know what you struggle most.

In your ADHD life.

What's your biggest struggle?

And then maybe we can also think of some ways to.

Overcome it and find resources that you definitely have but may not be.

Yet aware of.

Awareness.

Have a beautiful day.
