Returning To Right Relationship – A Prayer For Forgiveness
by Dee Hennessy
Inspired by Ho‘oponopono, the traditional Hawaiian wisdom of restoring harmony and making things right, this contemplative prayer draws on four familiar expressions of forgiveness, gratitude and love: I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you. Moving gently through our relationships with ourselves, with one another, and with the Earth, this prayer invites us to explore forgiveness as a pathway towards compassion, healing and a deeper sense of belonging. It is an invitation to acknowledge our human imperfections with kindness, to take responsibility where we have caused harm, and to remember the sacred web of relationships that sustains all life. Forgiveness cannot be hurried or forced. Sometimes it begins simply with a willingness to soften, to make amends where possible, and to open ourselves to the possibility of beginning again. May this prayer offer a quiet space for reflection, reconciliation and a renewed commitment to living with greater awareness, gratitude and love.
