So anger tends to go in one of two directions.
Either it gets expressed and it hurts somebody else,
Or it gets repressed And then it hurts us.
And eventually maybe somebody else.
So when we get angry,
It tends to go to one of two places,
Our fists.
Or our jaw.
Right?
We say something aggressive that expresses our anger,
Or we get physical with it.
Even if we don't hurt somebody else,
We might just you know,
Just needs an outlet.
That's why a lot of people like to go to boxing class.
So.
When we feel angry,
What do we do?
If I express it,
I'm hurting someone.
If I'm repressing it,
I'm hurting myself.
Where else do we go?
So I want to take a few minutes with you and give you some space to work some anger.
One of the ways I like to experience anger in meditation,
And we can do this together.
Is allow the anger to just run.
Through your body.
So it doesn't have to go towards someone else and it doesn't have to be pulled in or controlled.
So even right now,
I want you to see if you can think of something that's made you angry recently.
Maybe it's really right here or you got to kind of pull it up.
And we're not going to analyze it on a psychological level.
I want you to just really experience it for a moment.
So just notice.
Where that anger wants to go.
You might start ruminating,
You might start having a lot of fluctuating emotions.
And might feel like,
Whoa.
Unsave where are my boundaries?
I'm losing control.
And see if you can imagine.
Eyes open or closed,
Whatever is comfortable for you.
If the anger was just like a flame inside your body.
And it's just burning.
It's just burning.
And allow it to just wash over you.
Just let that anger just move.
Sometimes anger is.
.
.
Energy that is sitting on top of pain or grief.
Or confusion.
And it just doesn't know where to go and is trying to protect you.
Or create boundaries.
But it's just confused.
So just give it space right now,
Let it move.
If you need to yell.
Or move your body a little bit.
We're just like,
Ah,
Release.
Make some noise.
Just let the flame burn.
There's nothing inherently wrong with anger.
It's not a bad emotion.
There are no bad emotions.
It just can cause harm.
And so.
We might get confused around it or afraid of it.
But healthy anger.
Is really good for us.
We could be angry at another person,
At the world,
At ourselves,
At our past.
Thank God.
At life,
At everything.
If you are angry at everything,
Let that flame burn.
It's okay.
It's part of being a human being.
Sometimes anger just helps us burn some energy off.
And it lets us release some control.
So as you're sitting here with me meditating,
Perhaps you could just release some control and let the feeling move through you.
Anger only becomes a problem if we express it at somebody else without awareness.
Or we suppress it.
Or pointing at ourselves.
And if you've ever put a couple of.
You know,
Wooden logs on a fire and let them burn,
Eventually they burn out.
So let that fire burn,
Let that anger move.
If you have to animate it a bit,
Press into it,
Push into it,
It's okay.
You might even go,
It's not okay,
David.
And that's also okay.
Nothing is okay.
All right.
I'm frustrated.
Maybe there have been times in your life where you had to suppress your anger,
Where you weren't allowed to show it or feel it.
Was it appropriate or polite?
Or agreeable,
Or likable.
And as this flame burns inside you,
The anger might even come out of your body and into kind of the atmosphere around you.
So a few feet around you,
Just just moving around you.
And notice if you can give yourself permission just to have that.
You don't need my permission or anyone else's permission.
Just let it move.
Get out of my way.
And you might start to notice that anger can feel really good.
It could feel healthy.
It's an expression of your energy.
It could set a healthy boundary.
It could call something out when it's not okay or appropriate.
And it could also be a release,
So some pain or grief underneath can come out.
Anger might have been protecting you.
And you can let this flame burn as long as it needs to.
You can turn it up.
In volume or down.
And just notice how it actually might bring you some balance.
Some calmness.
Some boundary.
Really nice work.
I want you to take a big deep breath in with me.
Release it,
Side out.
Stay angry as long as you need to.
Burn it off.
There might be some insight underneath that.
As you move through it.
Could be quite profound to be angry.
Great work.
Thank you.
Be angry but don't stay angry.
Let it burn until it's done.
And then move on.
Great job.
I'll see you soon.
