Hello and welcome to Morning Stillness.
My name is David and thank you so much for sitting with me today.
One of my favorite comedians,
Jerry Seinfeld,
Is a big meditator and he makes this joke where he says,
People tell me to meditate in the morning,
But why would I want to wake up just to close my eyes again and rest?
He makes a good point.
But we close our eyes after we wake up so that we can consciously wake up.
So as you begin to close your eyes and allow your shoulders to relax and you step into your meditation today,
Know that you're closing your eyes because you're creating a sense of awareness and intention so the rest of your day can unfold consciously,
Creatively,
And with purpose.
So from an unconscious,
Quiet sleep,
We go to a conscious,
Quiet rest.
Allow your breath to gently move in through your nostrils,
All the way down into your belly.
Just expand your stomach like you're filling it like a balloon,
Where all those nerve endings come together.
And exhale.
You may have had a busy night of sleep,
Traveling,
Exploring,
Processing emotion.
And as you step into the day today,
You can begin to let that go.
As we step into a new day,
We can feel the freshness of the morning.
We can sense the newness.
If we're outside,
We can see the frost on the leaves or the awakening of the flowers,
The rustling of the trees,
The early movements of the animals.
In all of this movement,
There is a quiet stillness,
An awakening.
Allow yourself to be a part of that,
To notice it inside yourself.
Be humble to the movements of the morning.
As we awaken in the morning,
We awaken to a fresh mind.
Quickly the energy of the day,
All the people who want to communicate with us,
All our responsibilities,
Who want to pull us out of the morning and into everything we need to do.
But right now,
I invite you to allow the stillness of the morning to hold you in a space of quiet and calm.
Just jump into the day mentally,
Just be here.
Sit with stillness,
Sit with yourself.
Let your awareness be present of what you sense,
Of what you feel,
And of what is here.
Behind all the movements,
Behind all the sound,
Behind all the sensation that you experience is a stillness.
It can be hard to grasp because it has no manifest quality to it,
But it's there.
Can you just allow yourself to relax into it?
Let your awareness be present of what you sense,
Of what you feel,
And of what is here.
As you begin your day,
As you step into whatever it is you're creating today,
Can you do it from that place of stillness?
We might call it our center,
The place where we know ourselves,
Where we're connected to everything and there's an inner peace.
If you find yourself getting lost in the mental noise today,
At any point,
Bring yourself back to this sense of peace and stillness and infuse your awareness with it.
And see if you can change the world with one moment of stillness at a time.
When you're ready,
You can slowly begin to open your eyes and stretch,
Come out of meditation,
Or continue sitting if you like.
And thank you so much for sitting with me.
I hope to see you again soon.
Enjoy your day,
And be well.
