Nitric Oxide is a natural gas produced in the nasal passages. When we breathe through our nose nitric oxide mixes with the air and travels to the lungs. It provides several important health benefits. It widens blood vessels, supports heart health, brain function and immune strength. It also filters, warms and humidifies the air before it enters the lungs making breathing healthier.

Hello and welcome,

Nitric oxide and nasal breathing.

The way we breathe can make a huge difference to our health.

Big claim hey?

When we breathe through our nose something wonderful happens.

The tissues inside our nasal passages produce a natural gas called nitric oxide.

This molecule plays a powerful role in keeping our body healthy.

Nitric oxide acts as a vasodilator which means it helps to relax and open our blood vessels.

This allows blood to pass more freely lowering blood pressure and improving the delivery of oxygen throughout the body.

When we breathe through our nose the air that reaches our lungs contains nitric oxide.

This helps the lungs to absorb oxygen more efficiently.

Nitric oxide also has antibacterial,

Antiviral and antifungal properties helping to protect us from infections.

It strengthens the immune system,

Supports the heart and helps improve blood flow and oxygen supply to the brain.

However,

If we mouth breathe the air bypasses the nasal passages and no nitric oxide is added.

This can lead to less oxygen being absorbed,

Poor sleep and increased tiredness.

If we can breathe through our nose especially at rest,

Exercise and sleep we allow our bodies to use nitric oxide to its full potential.

Nasal breathing filters,

Warms and moistens the air while nitric oxide ensures our cells receive enough oxygen to thrive.

Nasal breathing is nature's own medicine.

It's free and available to all of us with every breath we take.

Good health can begin with something as simple as closing our mouth and letting our noses do what they were made for.
