Welcome to the moon and the tides.
This is a soothing nighttime legend.
So,
Just take a moment to settle into your comfort,
Warm and cozy,
And let your body begin to unwind like a soft seaweed floating with the current.
Feel the gentle weight of your space holding you like the embrace of warm waves cradling your body.
Gently and softly close your eyes.
Just let your forehead smooth.
Unclench your jaw.
Relax your shoulders.
Feel gravity doing the work for you,
Pulling you gently toward rest,
Toward ease.
Now bring your attention to your breath.
Just notice it.
No need to change it,
But if you would like,
Breathe in slowly as if drawing in the hush of moonlight,
And exhale as though letting go of all that is no longer needed.
Good.
Let's begin this story now,
A soft legend passed down through sea winds and dream tides.
So,
Let it carry you into rest and sleep.
The legend begins.
Long,
Long ago,
Before calendars,
Before cities,
There was only the sky,
The stars,
And the endless sea,
And the people who lived by the water.
These were quiet people,
Children of the salt,
Wind,
And sand.
They fished in wooden boats,
Sang lullabies to the dolphins,
And lit fires that flickered like stars on the shore.
But their ocean,
Their beloved ocean,
Did not move.
The sea was still,
Perfectly still.
It was a mirror of silence.
Beautiful,
Yes,
But heavy with something unnamed.
The elders said the sea was holding its breath,
Carrying sorrow or memory,
Or waiting for something not yet born.
And no matter how the people sang,
Or how they danced,
How they whispered wishes into shells and sent them out with the tide,
The ocean stayed still,
Watching,
Waiting.
Then one night,
When the air smelled of driftwood and dreams,
The moon came closer than ever before.
She hovered above the ocean,
Full and wide,
And her light fell across the sea like a soft,
White shore.
She bent lower,
Closer,
Closer,
Until her silver fingers of light brushed the surface of the still sea.
And in that moment,
The ocean breathed.
It was a slow inhale,
A slow exhale.
Then came the first ripple,
Then the next.
And soon the waves began,
Soft and rhythmic,
Like a sleeping giant had turned over beneath the water.
Now the people awoke to this strange sound,
The hush of waves washing the shore for the very first time.
They walked to the sea and stood barefoot in awe,
Feeling the water kiss their feet.
And then retreat,
And return,
And retreat,
Return,
Retreat.
The sea had come alive,
Just like your breath,
Flowing in,
Flowing out.
Night after night,
The moon returned.
She never spoke a word,
But the sea had learned her rhythm.
In and out,
Wax and wane,
Breathe and release.
The ocean,
Once trapped in stillness,
Now flowed.
It let go,
And it was beautiful.
The people began to live by this rhythm,
Planting and harvesting by the tides,
Resting on the still nights,
Dancing when the waves sang louder.
And when a child was born,
They whispered blessings under moonlight,
Saying,
May you always remember the sea can change.
Now just allow yourself to feel this rhythm within your own body,
The breath like the moving in and out.
Visualize yourself by the sea now.
It's a moonlit shoreline.
Waves are glowing silver as they roll gently in,
Then fade softly back.
The water is warm and calm.
With each breath in,
Imagine the waves drawing toward you,
Bringing clarity,
Calm,
Renewal.
And with each breath out,
Just feel them retreat,
Carrying away any tension,
Noise,
Or worry,
Or fears.
Now just let the tide do all the work.
Because you do not need to hold anything,
You can let it just flow out.
Any thoughts that are still circling your mind,
Any tightness in your chest,
Any burdens resting on your shoulders,
Just give them to the sea.
Because the sea knows how to carry the weight.
It knows how to transform it into peace.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Let go.
Let go.
Go.
You are held by this rhythm.
You are safe in this stillness.
And now the waves continue,
Slow and sure,
And the moon keeps watch,
Ancient and bright above you.
So let yourself drift now as if you were a shell,
Floating in the water,
Gently rocked by the tide.
The sea will carry you,
The moon will guide you,
And sleep is arriving right now.
And if you wake in the night,
Just remember the rhythms of the sea to soften,
To release,
To flow.
So you are part of something vast,
Something wise.
You belong to the rhythm of the earth,
And tonight that rhythm is singing you into a deep sleep.
So good night and sleep well,
My friend.
Namaste.
